He nodded slowly before heading into the forest. "Fine. I'll just have to come to you then. What's your name?"
"Because I'm being polite and making conversation," he said flatly. "My name is Briar Everbone, if that helps you."
"Canyon," he replied, nodding slightly as he stepped into the gloom. "Do you have a nickname, Canyon?"
She wouldn't have seen him at this point, and she didn't reply. She was fiddling with a leaf, but her face would be obscured by shrubbery and foliage.
"Don't sneak up on me," she said, the tone of her voice never changing from the shy and quiet sound. "Don't look at me."
