I love running now! I don't know why but I think its because every time I cross a finish line I feel so good about myself.

    my 5k times are:

    1:04:35
    0:59:57
    0:51:42

I'm improving the first was the Halloween spook 5k the next was the Drumstick dash and the latest was the Santa Hustle. I have another 5k this sunday called the Resolution Revolution. So I'll post my time from that. My meals each day are as follows, keep in mind to lose 2 pounds a week my calorie intake is 2900.

breakfast: banana with ice water (100 cal)
2hrs after: orange or some fruit (80-100 cal)
Lunch: Subway (920 cal with drink)
2hrs after: apple or some fruit (80-100 cal)
dinner: chicken with a vegetable and starch (550-700 cal)
2hrs after: scrabbled eggs, no milk or anything else, just beaten egg (140 cal)

all meals are eaten with 2 bottles of water.

I'm gonna beat this weight don't you worry ;)

Also I have a half marathon on September 1. So I'm training for that and using the 5k to listen to my body and see what I need to improve on.

Wow, you put so much more thought into the intake than I do.
By the way where's this half-marathon going to be? If it's close enough I'd be happy to run with you.

(5K times for me vary from 23:00 - 20:00, depending on the course)

Having a rapid metabolism is fun.
    5' 8", only weigh 101 (YES! I broke 100 after stepping on a scale!). It's fun business.

But getting excercise and eating healthily is the best way to go about this.
    Best of luck!

    its September 10th sorry fail.

    Indiana half-marathon

your times are amazing! At the Santa Hustle the fastest person was 0:17:03

What do you do to get your pace up? I'm doing the couch to 5k program which will bring my 5k time down to around 30minutes, but its a 9 week thing so in 2months that's where I should be.

Geez, sorry I can't join you, Indiana is much too far away.

To get my time up? Hmm, well the best way to do that is to do tempo runs really.
Here's what I usually do on a weekly basis:

Mondays- Wake up runs- After a weekend of being lazy I'll do a moderate run to wake up my muscles for the week
Tuesday- Long Distance- With my muscles all awake and whatnot I'll do this to expand my stamina base.
Wednesday- Distance Tempo Runs- I'll go to the track and do 400's (1 lap outdoor, 2 indoor) and 800's at about 80%.
Thursday- Long Distance- More stamina base. It's DISTANCE Running after all.
Friday- Interval Tempo Runs- I'll either do 200's at the track at 90%, or I'll do 30 seconds and 60 seconds swaps at 100%, or I'll do 2 minutes of race pace(80%), followed by a minute of walking, followed by a minute of jogging, and repeat.
Saturday- Rest day. I stay in and get fat :B
Sunday- Whatever- This day doesn't matter much to me, so I waste it on barefoot conditioning so I got get blisters on the bottoms of my feet during races.

For the tempos, I usually do 6 times of each workout.

I'm hoping to break 19 minutes next year, and 12 minutes this year for my 2 mile.

Ya I got two on the side of my right foot at my last race.

Your regiment sounds like the couch to 5k program smashed into one week instead of 9 weeks. I'm super excited to finish 13.1 miles. I can't wait maybe one day in early 2013 I could come do a marathon in your state lol :)

You get those blisters too huh? Well what I do to fix them is to occasionally do a few laps around the block completely barefoot. It'll toughen up the soles of your feet so the skin can't detatch from the underlying tissue.

I'm probably going to stop that when I switch to Vibrams though, it's long over due.
God I love being a minimalist.

I dropped a few pounds last month. I don't really need to worry, I have quite a high metabolism fortunately.
Follow Otirrob's method's, but it's always nice to know what's best for you.
Also, the Subway for lunch? IMO, I'd stay away from that unless you're picking your fillings wisely, saturated fats are common at Subway after I did some research, and they are more important to watch than calories, salt too.
You are doing well, but obviously take into consideration, you're tall too, like me, and we weigh more. Still, 390lbs is an indication, and I shall support your determination to bring it down! Have you checked your BMI too? That always a good measurement to look at, not always accurate though.
I weigh around about 190-200lbs at 6' 4", and it's going up as I work out, muscle weighs more than fat after all. :p
Keep at it, and you get there! You can do it, and no one can say otherwise.

I've never liked the BMI scale. It doesn't account for a lot.

I've considered making a weight loss/physical fitness thread a few times. I think that, after this vacation (which ends on New Year's) my mom and I are going to try to drop some weight together (my dad is losing a ton on a mail-order food diet).

Honestly, though, I'm 6'1" and 260 lbs. I'm a wide-set person, I carry my weight well even though I carry too much. I feel like if I lift a bunch of weights, I could drop fat really fast and replace it with some muscle, but it's getting going in the first place that puts me off. I guess the ritual of working out makes me upset...I have OCD, and ritualistic activity and I tend to have negative associations. I don't like going out of my way to do a set regime of activities, and I really don't like adjusting my diet (even though I don't eat much, I only chose to eat things that are terrible for me).

Any words of encouragement? I've gone to the gym and then quit after one visit before...I just hate the boring grind of "getting it done". I don't enjoy getting into shape.

Hmm, a weight loss thread is a good idea. People can post workout routines, encouragement, and we could possible hold a brony "Running of the leaves" (That would way too awesome)

Hmm, well lifting weights won't really help in losing weight, it'll burn some but the most it will do is add muscle. To really burn the calories you have to do some cardio like running or swimming or something. It works like this because you can't burn off the fat in just one place, it's impossible, so you have to burn a little off everything.

Cutting out meals isn't as hard as you think. Often times, I only eat one major meal a day. Some days I'm hungrier than others, but whenever I moved to a new school, I typically didn't eat their lunches for 6 months or more. If my mom didn't pack me a lunch, I didn't eat. I was quite physically active back then as well.

While I'm not supporting purging, I didn't mean starving, as in, not eating at all. Skipping meals or fasting, is what I meant. I mean, you can starve, but only if you don't physically push yourself.

I don't do anything and I either lose or gain weight. :derpe:

I guess when my term starts next year, I might lose more weight or so. Since I have to do some sort of Engineering class which will involve work.

I'm doing the Adkins thing - not quite 100% die-hard Adkins, but I try to eat less than 40-50 carbs a day, stay away from sugar (which is real hard considering how I like my tea), and I am allowed to drink diet soda, so that helps a bit. I normally drink about 3 liters of water a day, or more. And with the New Year, I plan on getting my exercise shoes on and start doing sit-ups, push-up, all that good stuff.

Mr. Stitches - do you have some one that could work out with you? My wife helps remind me to work out, and it's a bit more fun with her around to talk and joke with while we sweat.

    S. P. Rocket - You know, I had (have) a friend was 6' 5", and he barely got over 200 lbs. He was just one of those guys that could eat everything and not gain an ounce. Even when he got into his thirties, he just cut back to eating pizza four times a week. I'm not quite one of those guys that can gain weight from eating celery, but I do like to eat, especially sweets. Which is why I have bad teeth, as well. *sigh*
