I was just thinking, if Sparky never became an alicorn, that would have meant millions of "I'm done with the fandom" and "The writers are running out of ideas" threads that we wouldn't have had to suffer through.
The "Equestria Girls" movies would have still happened, so we would still have to deal with those kind of comments.
Doubt it. The first one started with Shimmy stealing Sparky's crown. OK, if they STILL made them, the plots would have been different. So, I'm glad Sparky became an alicorn.
Personally, I don't mind that Twi became an alicorn since Celetia was obviously grooming/preparing her for something... but I don't much care for the "crystal" look of Twi's castle. I was hoping it would be an awesome giant tree or something.

I guess the reason no one gave that answer is because it's technically wrong, so... uh... congratulations for being the first one to give it? Sure, the differences may be subtle, but they are far from non-existent. After all, there were a few episodes that specifically dealt with the responsibilities and burdens of Twilight being a princess now. And also, wings. Wings change everything.

How would either of those have been the slightest bit different if she weren't an alicorn princess? C'mon, should be easy, right? But she didn't "preside over" the games, she was just there like everypony else. No princess, no difference. The battle with Tirek was predicated entirely on the fact that Celestia moronically decided to give all the alicorn power to her. Would that have been different if she were normal old UniTwi? Not one bit. I'm eager to hear more examples, surely they should be all over the place.
Well, as Dilly said; all the episodes from the current series that rely on Twi receiving missions from the magical map in her castle are a direct consequence of her becoming a Princess. I agree that it didn't make a huge difference before that though.
So you mean, if she didn't become an alicorn princess, she couldn't have returned the Elements to the Tree of Harmony, she wouldn't have gotten her key from Discord, and she wouldn't have opened the box which grew the castle for her? What did any of that have to do with being an alicorn princess. I mean, does anyone here actually believe there's a reason to her being a princess beyond "Because Celestia said so"? Just imagine if Celestia hadn't simply said "You're a princess now", not a single character would have even imagined it.
I would like to re-state that all of the plot-points from the most recent season that use her castle and map as a plot device would certainly be different if Twilight was not a princess, so yes, there are examples all over the place. You're ignoring that the episode where she sits in at the games would have been different even on a technicality, since she would have been there as a regular citizen and not as a princess. Celestia also gave her Alicorn powers to Twilight who was an Alicorn, implying that their powers would be safe inside a princess Tirek didn't know about, and Tirek came after her because he saw the stained glass picture of her as a princess and thus figured out that he would have to do battle with another princess as opposed to Celestia/Luna/Cadence. I'm really not sure what you're trying to prove here. The definition of something being different in one of these episodes would be if you were to change something; if you change Twilight's status as a princess then that definition is satisfied. Imagine that Rainbow Dash didn't exist, but that there was another, different pegasus that existed in her place all this time. Imagine that there never was a Rainbow Dash. Would the series be different? In some ways yes, and in other ways probably not, but it would be different in at least on way; that point is inarguable. To argue against such a point would be to say that if Twilight had never been a princess, it would be the same as Twilight being a princess. Let "Twilight is a Princess" equal P. "Twilight is not a Princess" is the negation of this, therefore it can be represented as ~P. The statement "P = ~P." is nonsensical. Therefore, as far as definitions are concerned, the show must in at least some ways be different for Twilight having been a princess than it would have been if she were not. Your other thread used an intelligent deconstruction of the show to make a decent point. Here, however, you are only brutely asserting yourself without seeming to consider why other people are telling you what they are telling you. I would advise against that as I do not believe it is included in the recipe for intelligent discourse. Please give some serious thought to this. And I think we can do without the biting sarcasm, thank you very much.
