People who shroud themselves in hatred really do think that we're weak, it seems. You can't kill a fandom by taking away toys. :3 The fandom will never die as long as we hold on to our interest, and I'm not giving up >:U
Yet, by causing such panic as has been caused by haters throughout the history of your fandom, you are made to seem not only weak, but defensive. No one sides with the defensive.
The fandom doesn't seem to be dying in my eyes. In fact, I have a feeling it's still growing (and probably will more when season 3 comes around). But, to be honest, I wouldn't really care if it did. EDIT: DAMMIT, DAN!
It feels like the fandom starts to slow down right before a new season starts. Well, at least for me. Things have been pretty slow lately, but the fandom as a whole seems to be remaining strong and growing with each day.
Hasbro has been VERY lenient about leaving pony-related material on the internet alone (such as letting the non-1080p eps stay on youtube to help introduce new viewers). With that said, they are still a business and will of course draw reasonable lines in the sand. As to the fandom "dying" because of a few cyberattacks... if it really is that weak, then let it die. I doubt it will, though. If anything, it seems to be finally establishing itself after a fairly violent reaction toward it from all across the internet in 2011. People have generally resigned themselves to our existence now.
What is everybody worried about our fandom is huge and growing everyday plus the actors and actresses who work on the show as well as Daniel Ingram, William Anderson and Jayson Thiessin are also fans of the show too.
Someone hacking a YouTube account is nothing to worry about at all. Accounts have been hacked from the beginning of the internet and will be hacked to the end. We have to put these things in context. Firstly, people who hack do it for the reputation, and the backlash. They want people to fear them because, you know, they have problems and a poor upbringing. They know that in real life, the stench of grease would eliminate any possibility of intimidation so they choose to do it online. They go for Brony targets as they know people will kick off about it I don't see why you'd be scared though, as they do it with the intent of creating exactly that reaction. Why give them what they want? It's one account which is back up now so I don't see how it's something to fear. Every single fandom gets this kind of thing, this happens whether you're a Brony, a Politician, a Nice guy or Chuck Norris. All that's important is not feeding the reaction, and remembering that the funny fact of life is that you are getting scared about someone that most likely has troubles fitting through doorways. ^^
Once the show stops, wait a year or so and the fandom may die out. Or we may be like trekkies and live on. Who knows?
Season 3 is just around the corner. I just got off my pony break and even still I'm not feeling the "lust." I'm hoping season 3 will change that.
I too share the same feeling as Rainbowcrash. Honestly False bronies are everywhere in our fandom and there seeds are pretty deep too. And if that's not enough to scare you then look at what happened to Purple Tinker, Who used to be one of our most respected fandom contributor. Now she has turned into a corrupted person who pretty much spends her days online trying to get attention and sympathy from people. But there is some hope for this fandom still. Saberspark and people like him are popping up everywhere. Saberspark is the person who got me into this fandom in the first place, before i was reluctant to even consider being a part of this community. Also something to hope for is the amount of popular youtubers that are being converted into the community. Rhett&Link is one of them. Another is HotDiggedyDemon. One day i know this community will die. But i'm almost certain that won't happen anywhere in the near future. Not until at least the show is over.
"Brony" seems to be turning into an ugly word now, or perhaps I'm just hanging around the wrong places. At least this community is nice. The Naruto fanbase is completely full of retards. I only go to their fan site to read. Anyone who makes a thread gets trashtalked one way or another and I'm just not into it.
inb4 this thread is closed for depression. >brony is an ugly word. So we have a fandom that tries to spread itself in to everything. MLP is the new homestuck. But more massive.
Yeah I guess that's true. It's not like people ever bash me in real life anyways. I was actually thinking about that earlier today about how you can rinse yourself off and the internet and start completely fresh and unknown.
