He poked between her eyebrows playfully. "I'll always be alright." *** She glanced back at the heart with a frown before shaking her head. "It's fine. There's not much in here anyways."
She squinted playfully, a small laugh escaping her lips. "Weirdo. Just... please be careful, okay?" * * * He glanced up, looking at the ceiling. "Is your brother around? Another member of the search party was explorin' upstairs."
He nodded with a smile. "Of course." He paused and looked around the room before squinting at her. "Did you.. clean?" *** She looked up as well. "Oh, yes. There's no yelling so I'm sure everything is fine."
She flushed slightly, looking around. "It was... messy," she said with a small huff. "Your bed wasn't made." * * * "Hopefully. I might go check," he said, looking back down at her. "Be a shame if the princess was murdered when I was supposed to be her buddy."
He grinned at her, patting her head. "Thank you, then." *** She raised her eyebrows. "The princess? I think they've met before.. Let's go check."
She frowned deeper, raising one eyebrow. "I also didn't like the idea of you coming home to a messy bed," she said flatly, picking up her bag. "That's a bad feeling." * * * Burke nodded and headed for the stairs.
His grin widened and he leaned down to her playfully. "You were worried about me?" *** Scarlet followed, a frown on her face. It would be unusual for him to see her like this so persistently.
She squinted even more, looking up at him. "I always worry about you," she replied quietly, folding her arms primly. * * * "You have a mighty beautiful heart, Miss Scarlet," he said, climbing the stairs.
He laughed slightly, standing up. "You don't have to do that." *** She flushed in embarrassment. "What? Don't say that. You're just pitying it."
"Sure, I do," she said, tilting her head curiously. "When you found out I lied to you, you broke into a castle and committed high treason. You're a little... impulsive." * * * He glanced down at her, his face surprisingly serious. "Ms. Scarlet. Do I strike you as the kind of man who would suffer fools?"
"That's just one instance," he said smoothly. *** "No," she told him, her brows furrowed as she looked up at him. "But I wouldn't be surprised if you complimented something so make it seem special when it's not. You're kind like that."
"Oh really?" she asked playfully, looking up at him. "So you're not impulsive at all?" * * * A low laugh left his throat as he shook his head. "Ma'am, I'm afraid you don't know me at all."
He hesitated. "Maybe a little.." *** She sighed. "I'm aware. I haven't quite had the pleasure of learning much, yet."
She laughed again, turning to look at him again. "Maybe a lot," she replied, reaching up to straighten his lapel. * * * "Well, you stole my heart, darlin'," he said flatly. "Twice. You know quite a bit already."
He relaxed under her touch. "Mm. Just maybe." *** She went quiet, her brows furrowing as she said nothing more.
She frowned before sighed, her fingers curling slightly as her hand slid down his chest. "I should probably go..."
There was a small smile on her lips as she considered him. "I should," she murmured. There was a pause before she reached up, kissing him gently. * * * Burke opened the door, pausing as he saw the scene in front of him.
He kissed her back, his hand on her jaw. Scarlet was quiet for a moment, squinting at them with a disappointed frown.
"Nope!" Burke suddenly said loudly, interrupting the two. Ellie jumped back in surprise as Burke advanced towards them, grabbing Ellie's hand and dragging her towards the exit. "Nope, nope, nope, nope!"
