"It makes me sad," she admitted. "They were just doing their jobs." * * * "Exactly, no thanks to you," he muttered, opening his eyes.
He nodded. "I know. Mines are dangerous." *** She took his arm playfully, her head still on his shoulder. "It's regulated."
She looked over at him, her eyes almost glowing in the darkness. "Should we leave?" * * * "Not even," he said flatly. "Everytime he whimpers you give him a treat."
He tilted his head. "We can if you'd like." *** She looked up, her nose brushing his jaw. "I feel bad when he whimpers."
"I should probably head back," she said slowly. * * * He looked down at her, raising one eyebrow. "He knows," he replied. "That's why he does it."
"You're not coming back the whole way?" she asked, and he would be able to hear the disappointment in her voice. * * * "You could help it, though," he said with a yawn, turning his head to look out the window again.
He gave her a smile. "As far as I take you. The castle walls, maybe." *** She relaxed against him again with a stubborn look. "He likes them.."
"But..." She hesitated, looking up at him. "But... doesn't my father think that you're staying in the castle?" * * * "He also likes sleeping with all the female dogs in the village, but we don't just let him run wild, now, do we?"
"Well, yes, but I'd like to clean up a bit before I return. Adventuring makes me dirty." *** She rolled her eyes. "That's different."
She huffed playfully before shaking her head. "Fine, fine. Will you come to see me when you're done?" * * * "How so?"
He kissed the back of her hand. "Of course." *** She sat up. "One is just food, and the other is.. well.."
She clearly brightened, looking over at him affectionately. "Good. Maybe we should split up when we get out so you can clean up faster...?" * * * "They're both indulgences," he countered.
"Or you could visit my house with me," he offered. *** She squinted at him. "Just because you give me food sometimes when I am perfectly capable of getting my own doesn't mean anything either, now does it?"
She considered this for a moment, pursing her lips. “Would I be intruding?” *** “I don’t give you dessert every time you bug me for some. There’s the difference, Starlight.”
"I'm inviting you, silly." *** She sighed, leaning against him again. "Fair enough." She looked down at Logan. "From now on you'll only get treats when you're a good boy."
She laughed slightly before nodding. “Okay. That sounds nice.” *** Logan whimpered, looking up at her sadly.
She followed him, leaving the mines behind. *** “I swear to God, Scarlet, do not give that dog a treat.”
