"Oh yeah?" she teased playfully, offering him a scone. "Where is it right now?" * * * They got to their room and Burke nudged the door open with his hip. He turned on the light, revealing quite a nice room with a double bed in it. He frowned, raising one eyebrow.
He took it, taking a bite. "In my bag. I always have it with me." *** She looked around, her head tilting slightly. "I can just.. sleep somewhere besides the bed, since theres only one."
She flushed, looking up at him in surprise. "You do?" * * * "Nah, Ms. Scarlet, don't worry... I'll go talk to the people. See what can be done. You take the bed."
She looked down for a moment before standing up, her sweater brushing just above her knees as she went over to his bag and picked it up. * * * He left the room, closing the door behind him.
He watched her adoringly. Her heart was in the bag, as he said it would be. *** She went in, sitting on the edge of the bed and looking around.
She took it, holding it in the palm of her hand before coming back over to him, sitting back next to him in bed. * * * The room was very comfortable, if not a little plain.
She leaned back against him again, looking down at it. It caught the early morning sun, shimmering with gold as it rested in her palm. She frowned, pursing her lips. * * * He came back a few minutes later, frowning. "Welp. I'll take the couch."
"It's a little..." She hesitated, looking embarrassed. "I don't know. It's different than my siblings." * * * "Too late," he said, striding towards the couch.
He looked up at her. "What are theirs like?" *** She leapt to the couch without warning, laying across it.
She leaned against his shoulder. ' "Bernadette's is golden, like mine," she said quietly. "It's inlaid with rubies though. Tristan has crystals. I don't mind for aesthetic purposes; I understand that they're supposed to reflect the person and I am rather plain. I just know that the royal family's hearts are supposed to be extravagant. I would hate to be an embarrassment." * * * He squinted, leaning down and picking her up.
He frowned. "What? I think yours is beautiful." *** She turned to him, sticking out her arms and feet to avoid being picked up.
She looked up at him, kissing the corner of his mouth. "You're sweet. It's not, but thank you." * * * He grunted, sitting down on the couch.
She looked up at him with wide eyes, her gaze gentle. There was a pause before she put the heart in his hand. "Well... good thing we're getting married, then..." * * * "Either I sleep here, or we both sleep here, or we both sleep in the bed. You choose."
Her hands reached up to cup his jaw as she kissed him back. * * * He looked surprised, raising an eyebrow. "Really?"
