He offered his hand. "You look lovely. Though.. I don't think you picked it." *** She shrugged, slipping under the covers. "I don't mind."
She laughed slightly, looking down at herself as she took his hand. “Oh, well... it doesn’t really bother me, if I’m honest. I never expected to be able to choose my wedding dress. This whole ceremony, though... I have to be honest, Xav, it makes me so sad. You’re the only good part about today.” *** “You will,” he promised, lying back on his side. “C’mon up, Logan.” Logan hopped up onto the bed, panting slightly.
He kissed her hand. "I've never been one for big ceremonies, but I agree. You make it better." *** She grinned, petting Logan before lying back.
She looked over at him gratefully, squeezing his hand. “I think I’m falling in love with you,” she said, the phrase having become one of the common ones they passed back and forth. *** Logan stretched out, rolling onto his back. Burke squinted but sighed, resting his head on the pillow.
He grinned, his head tilting ever so slightly. "I love you." *** Scarlet pulled up the blanket, closing her eyes.
She flushed in surprise, watching him carefully. “I... I love you too.” *** Burke drifted off slowly.
A few days later, Ellie was in the library, coming down from a ladder with a few books in her arms. * * * Burke's arm was draped lazily across her. She would be awaked by Logan's loud snoring in her ear.
Xavier came into the library, looking around. "Ellie?" *** She awoke with a frown, squinting as she pulled the pillow over her head.
She came over to the balcony, looking down at him. She wore a simple green dress with laces up the front. “Up here,” she said, looking down at him. *** Logan ignored this, burrowing his head into the pillow and snoring louder.
He looked up at her and grinned. "What are you up to?" *** She grumbled, turning away from the dog and resting her head against Burke as she tried to catch peace.
She squinted at him. “Not funny,” she said, laughing anyway. “Gathering some books. What are you doing?” *** “I warned you,” Burke grumbled sleepily.
He chuckled, finding a seat. "Seeing what you're doing." *** She mumbled something into his side before turning her head slightly and speaking clearly. "I know, I know."
She came down to him, setting the books on the table. “I’m glad you’re here.” *** He mumbled sleepily, his arms wrapping around her tiredly. “This is your fault...”
She smiled, opening her mouth to speak before the doors flew open. One of the guards looked at her, clearly rattled. “Princess... it’s your father...” Ellie looked up quickly, her posture stiffening instantly as she approached him. “My father? What’s happened?” “He’s been murdered, madam.” *** Logan snored again.
Ellie went silent, her eyes wide. “Take me to him,” she said, her voice quiet. The guard nodded, leading her away. *** “Logan, stopppp....” Burke groaned.
