She came back to the room a few nights later, her shoulders slumped. His wife had lost the light in her step, at least temporarily, but she seemed worse than usual, hanging up her cloak on the wall. * * * He squinted but picked up his bag. "Ready to go?"
He looked up at her with a frown. "You okay, Ellie?" *** She nodded, going to the door and opening it.
She hesitated, looking over at him uncertainly. "I'm alright," she said, grabbing her pajamas. "I'm just going to go to bed..." * * * He slung his wares over his shoulder and they all headed out, going towards the market.
He tilted his head slightly and stood up. "Are you sure?" *** She walked along side him, looking around at the sights curiously.
She nodded hastily, going to the bathroom to change. This was strange seeing that they generally just changed near each other for convenience's sake. She closed the door behind her, though, locking it. * * * He also looked around distastefully. "I hate this city."
She came out a couple of minutes later, rubbing the back of her neck as she slipped into her side of the bed. * * * "They're so crowded. Why do so many people want to be here?"
He seemed uncertain, but slipped into bed as well, facing away from her. "Goodnight.." *** She shrugged. "I kind of like it."
She was quiet for a moment before speaking, her voice soft. "Goodnight," she replied quietly. "...I love you." * * * He squinted at her playfully. "I knew I was right not to trust you."
It didn’t take long for them to drift off. Xav would wake later to a pinch in his neck. It was uncomfortable, but no sooner had he woken that he felt some sort of liquid splash upon him. It stunk heavily of liquor. *** “Have you ever been here before?”
He woke up with a start, sitting up quickly in a panic as he looked around. *** She shook her head slightly. "I don't travel much."
His tongue and limbs were heavy as he sat up, making him struggle ad his words slurred. Someone dressed in all black stood in front of him, holding an empty bottle in their hands. Upon seeing that Xavier was awake, they hurled the bottle at the wall, a loud thud and shattering shaking the room as the figure darted to the balcony. * * * He looked over at her with a small smile. "I'll try not to ruin it for you, then."
Xavier looked quite stunned and upset, getting up as best he could to stumble and follow the figure. *** She looked up at the buildings. "Why don't you like it?"
The figure slipped over the balcony, disappearing into the night. * ** "I already told you," he said with a small sigh. "Too many people. Plus, they're rude to Logan."
