“He thinks you tried to kill me,” she replied. “What if someone tried to kill Scarlet?” *** His heart rested in tissue paper, its copper surface winking up at her. “It belongs to you if you want it.”
He offered a playful smile. "I know, I know. But I think she can handle herself." *** She scooted closer to him with a warm smile. "Obviously."
“I am trying to prove that you should be allowed to stay with me, Xav. You can’t make jokes like that.” *** He reached up hesitantly, brushing her hair back gently.
He sighed, looking away with a small frown. "Okay. I'm sorry." *** She leaned into his touch with a smile, scooting beside him and leaning against him. "Okay, now open your second one!"
She studied him before kissing his chest gently. “We’ll figure this out.” *** He squinted, draping an arm over her shoulder before opening the second gift.
He nodded, pulling her close. "Let's sleep.." *** It was a handmade quilt. The shapes stitched into it would be recognizable as a big picture of Logan.
She nodded, her arms circling his waist. “And you’re back in time for Christmas...” *** He laughed out loud, leaning against her. “This is amazing!”
"Mhmm," he murmured. "I got you a gift. You'll have to wait until tomorrow." *** She grinned. "You like it? I stitched it myself."
She opened her eyes, looking shocked. “You got me something?” *** “It’s beautiful,” he said earnestly, looking over at her. “Thank you.”
She looked very surprised, raising one eyebrow. "The Royal Family doesn't give each other gifts," she said, tilting her head. "I've never gotten a Christmas gift." * * * "Okay. Now open yours."
He laughed slightly. "Really? Huh. Well, I got you one." *** She nodded, carefully opening the package.
She frowned, cupping his jaw gently before sighing. “That’s not right.” *** A silver, delicate necklace rested inside a box. The chain was an intricate vine reminiscent of her dagger, but it was smaller than the design he had made for her, requiring more care. Tiny roses dotted the chain, each petal wrapped meticulously around itself, and at the base of the necklace was a smooth round locket.
He looked a little uncertain. "Is it not?" *** Her eyes widened slightly, her finger gently brushing over the designs as she opened the locket.
“No,” she said, shaking her head. “You shouldn’t be spending money on me.” *** There was a miniature painting of Logan on the inside.
"Oh, hush," he said, closing his eyes. "I love you." *** She her smile widened and she reached up to kiss his cheek. "I love it! Will you put it on me?"
She pouted a little, but scooted closer to him, resting her head under his chin. “I love you too.” *** He laughed slightly before taking the necklace from her, securing it around her neck.
