"Yes, well.. the only other place I have to go is home, and I think I would die of boredom if I stayed there all day." *** (Yoop!)
"Explore the world, then. Just explore it outside of this city. Or, better yet, stop stealing hearts." * * * That night, Ellie was in the clearing, her hood drawn over her head.
"Firstly," she began, her brows furrowing, "I can't leave the city. All I have is my brother, and I'm not willing to leave him behind. Secondly, even if I stop they would still know my face." *** Xavier approached quietly, looking a little wary. "Bean?"
"There's no reason to look for you, Miss Scarlet, if you stop committing crimes," he said, his voice low. "You don't need to leave, but just... cease your activities." * * * She looked over her shoulder, pulling her hood down. Her face obviously brightened. "Egg. Hi."
He nodded, looking over his shoulder again before looking back at her. "And maybe find something to change your eye color," he said, his voice teasing. "They're very distinctive." * * * She raised one eyebrow. "Did you think that I would?"
He raised an eyebrow before giving her a polite nod. "Have a good one, Ms. Scarlet..." * * * She raised an eyebrow before gesturing with her head. "Come on."
She sighed, tilting her head. "You too, Burke." *** He looked curious, standing straight. "Where are we headed?"
He turned to leave, heading down the aisle once again. * * * She looked over at him, a teasing grin on her mouth. "That's not how adventures work."
They walked for a long time before they came across a silvery stream. Ellie looked down at it thoughtfully, kneeling down. "Look," she said after a moment, pointing to a shallow end of the water. A brown frog, almost completely blending into the rock he sat upon, was staring at them, the only movement coming from his throat.
She ran her fingers through the water smoothly before looking over at him. "Cute was not a word I thought you'd use."
