I assume "Meet the Spartan" and the "300". Then again since I have no idea I could be completely wrong.
It was insulting. The Battle of Thermopylae is one of the most inspirational true stories of courage against impossible odds in history. To reduce it to a freakshow is just wrong.
I wouldn't say they reduced it to a freakshow. They glamorised and exaggerated it, to make it more palatable to a modern audience, sure, but the theme of holding against impossible odds was still very much at it's core. I'd say they were a lot more accurate than they could have been; not totally shying away from the brutality of the Spartan culture to try and make them more sympathetic, like some film makers would be liable to do.
They turned Xerxes into a drag queen with an entourage of mutants. They turned the entire Spartan army into the WWE. They turned Ephialtes of Trachis into a hunchbacked wannabe Spartan. The movie sucked.
