IT'S GODDAMN AFTER BURNER!! A COIN-OPERATED ARCADE VIDEO GAME RELEASED IN 1987 BY SEGA ENTERPRISES WHERE THE OBJECTIVE IS TO SHOOT ENEMY AIRCRAFT OUT OF THE SKY WHILE PILOTING AN F-14 TOMCAT FIGHTER JET!! IT'S AFTER BURNER, AFTER BURNER, AFTER BURNER!!

In the movie they re-purposed it.

No, they *squee!*ing didn't. The graphics were completely untouched (destroying any illusion that the game takes place in space), and a bunch of Atari noises were added in post-production to an obviously 16-bit game. The only attempt to convey to the audience that this was in any way a space shooter was the dialogue and using a different cabinet (and even that is done sloppily, since in shots that show the game, you can clearly see the border of the screen used for actual After Burner upright arcade cabinets).

And yes, I DO know what I'm talking about, and not just some Nostalgia Critic fanboy. Obviously you have never actually played the game, so for comparison's sake, here is actual gameplay footage of After Burner:

Next time you want to discuss something, KNOW YOUR TOPIC. Otherwise, you'll come off as a braindead drunk trying to sound smart.

You know at first I thought harsh was the wrong word, still think it is. But Morphin definitely went over board. All I said was they re-purposed it. That's it. But if you read his post and see the one he made in 'What annoys you' it sounds like I made a big speal about him being wrong. I never said he was wrong. All I said was they re-posed it. From my original post:

What they did was lazily create a prop. It happens all the time in movies. They re-purposed Afterburner into Star Commando. His rant has nothing to do with the movie and all about how he knows what the prop really is. Who cares what it really is. I barely remember that scene. Heck even though I like the movie have it on DVD, I barely remember the whole thing. The only reason I remember "I was Frozen Today" is because of the NC and the video someone keeps posting putting Lloyds head on Elsa.

Back to the my edit. I click new post then click on each topic so I have no unread post. I don't read everything, I just click on it and normally click back to new post. This time I saw his post and quite frankly it annoyed me. All I did was say they re-purposed it. I wasn't trying to to sound smart I was just giving a simple reply.

You're both right. It was both harsh and know-it-all, and I apologize.

My point was that if they were going to feature a space shooter in the movie, the LEAST they could have done is use gameplay from an actual game in that genre, such as Defender or Galaga.

The Atari sound effects, the different cabinet, the awkward dialogue, even the fact that Hogan is just randomly moving the joystick and mashing the fire button can all be forgiven, but After Burner being passed off as a space shooter when it clearly isn't will always irritate me, being a huge fan of the game and all. Sure, it's a nitpick, but it's very distracting.

All in all, I'm sorry for being so immature. I'm sure you have enough problems with that to begin with, being involved in the Transformers fandom and all. It's only natural for nerds to rage over pointless things (e.g.; the Ewoks, Equestria Girls and Twilicorn, Dragon Ball GT, pressing B to jump in an NES game, literally any post-G1 iteration of Transformers ever), and I'm no exception. The trick is to know that what you're raging about is stupid, and invoke the MST3K mantra. Easier said than done, I know, but it's still the smart thing to do.

I want to say that around that time (80s-90s), video games were often not represented properly, perhaps mainly because it was just a background thing.
Even with The Wizard (I'm sure you both know since NC references) with it centering on games, they don't take it on any level of seriousness, where they spit out gaming-ish related words but aren't actually accurate, like the power glove, or mashing of buttons when nothing is really happening.
Just a thought that came to mind.

The whole reason I'm not a part of Transformers forums or Star Trek forums is because I don't join forums for fan rage. I don't want to fan rage. I've had a few rants here, on an episode or two, but by in large I ignore the rants because honestly I don't care that much for MLP. I like the show okay, but I'm not a huge fan, there are far more episodes I dislike than like. I'm here cause there's more to this place than pony talk, and honestly cause Rockout is here. I liked his stuff on Deviant Art and wanted to get to know him. A bit stalkerish I admit, but I stay because there are other people that I've come to befriend and the role playing section is active even if I'm not the most active in it. I like that it's there for me to join in.

I know it's mentioned, short packed mentioned it too, but I've never seen it.
