"I'd be disappointed if you refused to talk to me because I defended myself successfully."
She laughed slightly. "You seemed sad yesterday.."
He was quiet for a moment. "Aspen, there's a lot you don't know about me."
She looked over at him. "I know.."
He nodded slightly as Eli rolled out of his den, yawning.
Aspen looked over. "Good morning, Eli."
"Morning," he said sleepily, padding over to them.
"Sleep well?'
"Well enough," he said tiredly.
"That's good, I think."
"What about you?"
"It was alright."
"What's for breakfast, Aug?" "French toast," August said absently.
"I get to help this time!"
"Good for you, Price," Eli said, yawning as he sat down at the table.
She nodded brightly, focusing back on her task.
"Alright, Aspen. Do you know how to make French toast?"
She looked up at him, pausing. "Er.. You put the bread in.. aand the stuff.."
"That's a 'no', then. C'mere."
She came over, her expression observant.
