"Well, even that would be a gamble. He doesn't want pets. I see what he means."
"I think this is a good place for them. It's very nice here. I'd live here too."
"With the rabbits?"
"Yeah. Well.. If this place were less dangerous."
"Maybe someday."
She nodded, looking thoughtful as a slight frown crossed her face.
He noticed, looking over at her. "What is it?"
"I worry," she admitted slowly, "I worry that my presence makes your lives harder."
He raised an eyebrow, lying down on his back again. "That's just not true, Aspen."
She pursed her lips, looking over at Eli.
"He's just an ass. Don't worry about it."
She said nothing, looking back down at the rabbit.
"I wouldn't lie, Ass."
"What?"
He frowned. "Not good?"
She laughed. "Did you call me Ass?"
"I thought it was a good nickname," he said apologetically.
"It's funny," she allowed, "but not the best, Aug."
"Damn. What should I use?"
She chuckled, patting the rabbit. "I dunno, but not that."
