August woke with a start, sitting up suddenly, his chest heaving with breaths. He glanced out of his den and the dark, early morning stared back at him.
He paused, checking on her den and relaxing when he saw her sleeping peacefully. He pulled away and stood by the entrance, pulling the vines away to look at the moon.
His silhouette was illuminated by the moonlight, and he was sitting on the edge of the cave's entrance.
