There was a silence before he spoke again. "You can lie down, you know. Am I taking up too much space?" He began to scoot over, looking up at her worriedly.
"You don't have to," he said, lying back again and turning his head to look at her. "You just had to get up early, is all."
They sat in silence for a while as the sun rose over the horizon. August fell into a light sleep, his whole body relaxed.
Some time later, she would wake up to Eli nudging her forehead with his foot. "This is a strange development." August was next to her, his head on her shoulder.
She blinked blearily, looking at August momentarily before looking up at Eli. "Did you just use your foot to wake me up?"
"And you comforted him back to sleep?" He shook his head. "He can't be in a romantic relationship, Price. You understand that, right?" August's hair tickled her skin as he shifted, his nose brushing the base of her neck.
"I'm serious. I'm not even teasing you at this point. Besides, it's hard to believe you. Your fingers are in his hair."
He sighed, sitting down and looking at August. "But you'd like there to be, right? I see the way you look at him, Aspen."
