“I don’t understand exactly what’s going on,” he informed her blearily, still mostly asleep, “but it is sure nice to see you.”

 

“Good morning,” he replied quietly, his gaze flickering up to her.

 

“Yeah,” he said, nodding slightly. “You?”

 

He smiled slightly, his hand cupping her jaw.

“I had to leave you earlier.”

 

“Yeah. Before Eli woke up.”

 

“Yeah. He left an hour ago.”

 

“Me too. He seemed grumpy.”

 

“Because he’s existing,” he said flatly.

 

“That’s not true. I didn’t mean that.”

 

“Probably something like that.”
