His long fingers closed around it and he nodded, sitting back down and wrapping the pastries in the cream cloth gently and carefully.
She observed him as he did, waiting for him to finish wrapping it before hugging him gently, resting her head on his shoulder.
His body language indicated surprise and he shifted to touch her face gently, trying to feel her expression. "What is it?"
She leaned into his touch, sighing almost shakily. She didn't seem sad, more relieved. "I really missed you, August."
She reached up, taking his face gently in her hands as her thumb brushed his cheek. "I'm sorry I left, August. I really am very sorry."
His whole face relaxed from her kiss, his eyes fluttering closed despite the skepticism in his words.
