She still looked panicked. "But there's things there. Professionals and stuff. What if something goes wrong?"
"It wouldn't hurt me if you were," he said plainly. "I'm blind. It sounds like I'm scarred, if your analysis is correct. I'm bruised and battered and thin. It would be okay if you were. I'm ashamed."
She softened, shifting and hugging him delicately. "I could never be ashamed of you, August. You shouldn't even have to ask."
His pillow shifted as she hugged him and she would see dark, ugly bruises and veins through his skin, injuries that hadn't been there a few hours prior. It looked harsh and irritated and he shifted uncomfortably, trying to cover it up again. "I still worry."
He frowned, pulling his arms around protectively before relaxing slightly. His abdomen looked seriously injured. The combination of the shot to his torso and Eli's attack was already revealing itself and it looked red and black and bruised.
"I wish I could have helped.." she said quietly before brushing his hair back. "You should get some rest."
