"Do you think you could introduce us? I would love a chance to discuss some of my research with the Element of Magic, and sadly, I never had a chance to teach her when she was attending Celestia's School."
Taking the time to snatch up the remains of his slice of cake, Quickstar followed Intrude towards what appeared to be an enormous tree with windows. The sign outside proclaimed it the Golden Oaks Library. A library inside a tree? That's certainly poetic. He waited patiently as Intrude knocked on the door in the trunk, the anticipation rising within him.
Dreamer followed the three, trying to be as sneaky as he could, rather unsuccessfully, before finally hiding in the leaves of the library tree.
(I'll play Twilight, if that's ok.) A purple pony, who must have been Twilight Sparkle answered. "Oh, hello, Intrude. How are you?" she asked. Intrude nodded. "This is Quickstar. He works at Celestia's school, and wants to talk to you." she said. "Oh, come right in." Twilight replied.
(Well, I'd at least wanted to leave up to you how Twilight would react to you, but if you want to take on her role completely, that's fine too.) "Professor Quickstar, a pleasure to make your acquaintance Miss Sparkle." Once again, he reached out his hoof to shake. "It's a pity we never had a class together, but then again, your magical education was given by the very best. I'm here in Ponyville on my sabbatical, and I was hoping we could discuss some of the things I'm working on?"
"Oh, sure." she said, eagerly, returning the hoof shake. "I've always wondered how that school turned out. Please, come in." she said, offering a chair.
(Um...didn't Twilight apply for that school? Isn't that where she got her cutie mark? Also, I hope you don't mind what I'm about to do, but I didn't have any specific "research" planned out yet) It wasn't long before Twilight and Quickstar were engaged in a deep discussion of magical theory that would have gone right over the heads of most ponies. Several tomes floated down as they came across some conflicting opinions and Twilight called on sources to back them up, while Quickstar called upon practical demonstrations to do the same. After only a few minutes, they were completely oblivious to everything around them, and would probably remain that way for quite a while.
(No, sorry, I meant after she left.) Intrude stood, and waved. "Good luck, you two." she said, leaving.
Dreamer looked through the window, and since every pony he could see seemed to be in a mild comatose state, he decided to sneak in and try to speak with the pony from his dream. He gently slid open the window and jumped through, only to trip as he landed and fall on his face next to Quickstar.
Quickstar and Twilight both looked over at the newcomer. "Um...was your spell supposed to do that?" asked Twilight. "No, it was supposed to light that candle," replied Quickstar. "There we go!" With a small pfft, the candle in question ignited in a mildly impressive fashion. "But anyway, who are you?" he asked the stranger who had fallen from the ceiling.
Dreamer quickly jumped up and shook his head to steady himself. "The name's Dreamer, and you sir, were in my dream. It's rare i see ponies in my dreams that are real. so... i wanted to come meet you... i guess. sounds stupid now."
"Precognition!?" gasped Twilight. "That's a very rare talent!" "Indeed, very little research has been documented on it!" agreed Quickstar. Suddenly Dreamer found himself the center of attention. "What else did you see?" "How often do you get visions?" "Can you control them, or do they happen on their own?" "Quick, someone get parchment and quill! SPIKE!"
"um... okay... so... one, i saw 9 or 10 ponies, including you" he pointed at quickstar "and the pony that brought you here... two, almost never... three, i wish i could control them... four, my head hurts, i regret doing this, but my other option seemed less fun... i was wrong. mommy." Dreamer fell onto his face again, his eyes seeming to spin in circles.
"...I think we broke him," said Twilight. "Perhaps we were a bit...eager," agreed Quickstar. "Let's start off simple." Twilight and Quickstar helped up the pony. "What's your name?"
"Here, sit down over here," said Twilight, guiding Dreamer over to a padded chair while Spike ran in with parchment and quill. "Now, start from the beginning. What do you remember from this dream?"
"um... the usual me running around in my armor slashing beasts and whatnot all over the place... then everything goes black and next thing i know i'm looking at a lineup of ponies i've never met, before the dream cuts back to my normal crazy fantasies." Dreamer starts to roll around in the padded chair.
"Hmm...not much to go on, I'm afraid..." muttered Twilight. "Well, I've always had my doubts about the reliability of precognition," said Quickstar. "In fact, I'm not entirely sure his mind is all there." Twilight giggled. "Or maybe he's related to Pinkie Pie. He did fall from the ceiling, after all." "Yeah, I've been meaning to ask you about her, have you ever been able to understand her? Who is she, anyway?" asked Quickstar. "She's the Element of Laughter," replied Twilight, "And trust me when I say that trying to understand her is a BAD idea. Don't try."
"element... oh yea... that reminds me of something... was it... nah, its probably not gonna happen, but it might... oh well, its been fun, i need to go, bye quickstar!" Dreamer rushes out of the building, stopping suddenly as he turns a corner. 'Wait... was that his name... did he tell me his name? oh well, doesn't matter. if i'm right i need to go get three cupcakes and a magic medallion.' he thought before continuing running towards his home.
