Gaze had finally made it to the gates of New Canterlot it took him awhile to get there because a strong breeze going the other way made him go at snail pace he saw Karl talking to a guard. "Stop him! He wants to free Pain!" Gaze yelled he lowered himself down and got into a fighting position encase if he tries to attack him or the guards.
Karl looked at him with a broken smile, and said, "Okay, okay okay okay. I'll... can you let me in? I have to talk to Dark. In private. If not, then could you tell her to meet me at the broken cliff?" He pointed in the north-west direction. "You do that, i'm gonna leave for now." He turned and started walking off to the cliff. He had plans, not evil, but plans. He looked at Gaze, and simply sighed and walked past him, but when he passed him he hissed, "Stay out of my way if you don't wanna get hurt, filly." He continued to walk away, to the cliff. But first, he had to get some Vodka.
"You've caused a lot of pain for a lot of ponies, Pain." Fire said, "I just wanna know what you have to say for yourself."
"That I am tired, and regretful. Not for the ponies I was hired to kill, there was always a reason with them, but the innocents, the ones not meant to be killed, those I am eternally regretful for. My job sounded so simple at first comrade! I go in, scare all the ponies away from Canterlot, then move on to the royal family, then the rest of the Marks! And had I known the others," he said motioning to Snow and her family, "Had a child! I would never hurt a child in anyway comrade, not even for a billion bits, maybe once he's all grown and a full colt, then yes, but a foal! Never!"
"Yes I know comrade. And your anger, its expected. But like I told your comrade Dark Light, do not let your anger rule you comrade. Anger is why I beat you so handily the last time, anger is a fighter's worst enemy, it is also the enemy of our very existence comrade. I spent many years mediating on this, and I still do comrades, do the same, and let the anger flow out of you. Anger, self-blaming, pride, all these things and more are the death of us ponies. And let me tell you something, I still remember the human invasion. They expelled those feelings like a toxic dump, do not end up like the humans comrades, be better than that. Be better than me!"
Gaze had a strange expression on his face but it seemed Karl was acting stranger he had thought they would engage in combat but he just walked away but Gaze still had to see Pain. He made it to the Prison to find Firebreeze and Arrows "Hey guys!," Gaze walked over to the group and looked at Arrows "Oh yeah thanks for leaving when I was chasing Karl big help,". He looked at Pain through the bars of his cell "So you got captured 'eh looks like you weren't as powerful as I thought," Gaze said chuckling, "But still you have to die for the murders you made you sick pony,".
"No he won't." Dark said, "I have a feeling that he is going to be quite useful in the future, he's been on the inside of the criminal underworld, and above it all, he turned himself in. Every guard around him knows it, he's changed."
Gaze turned around to see Dark "Oh hey! didn't see you there hows that leg doing?," Gaze said but suddenly his happy attitude went into a darker mood "So even though he killed hundreds of ponies we are just let it slide when he just changed I don't care about that he should at least punishment for the crimes he deserves justice!"
"The leg's fine." Dark said, "And the reason why we are keeping him alive, is a): I have a policy as Commander of the Guard that if a pony is wanted, and they turn themselves in, they will receive a lesser punishment than those had to be tracked down and brought to justice, and I am honor-bound to keep that position, even for a monster like Pain. Our friend here is currently living out over two thousand life sentences. And b): He started out in a cell deep underground with barely any space, a forget-me-not essentially, and for each criminal/pony who has hired him, he was rewarded. He earned his way into this cell."
Dark Shine made it into New Canterlot and sighed as he landed. He looked around. His mother. His father. His sisters. He did not know if they survived or not... He landed near two double doors, and saw a guard. "Excuse me. Do you mind telling me what is behind these doors?" He asked, hanging his head in shame as he did so.
Dark Shine nodded before stepping in. Pain huh... Lets see how that Criminal is doing now... Because of him... My family may be dead... Dark walked up to Pain's cell, ignoring everyone else. He just stood there. Stood there and stared, his eyes, a hollow shell.
"Ah, comrade Dark Shine has arrived it seems." Pain said, then saw the hollowness in his eyes, "What's wrong comrade, did I do a little too much with your brain? Sheesh, do none of you ponies understand the meaning of letting go?!"
"Come on comrade, stop being such a pessimist! I let civilians escape Canterlot from the moment I first took it over, I'm sure they got out in time!" Pain said. (Great, now I'm reading him as a Russian Sheogorath from Skyrim)
Dark Shine shook his head. "They would have contacted me." He looked at Pain, then the others. He was becoming an emotional wreck. He turned, and ran out of the door, fling into the sky before landing on a nearby cloud.
Karl oncorked the bottle and poured up the glass. He raised in a sad, "For mother Russia." He then chugged the glass. Putting it down, he started thinking about her again, started thinking why, and he started thinking about The Truth. It had been exacty 15 years ago. 15 years since he last saw her. And he still couldn't let her go out of his mind. He was sad, angry. He wanted to just jump off the cliff and die. But he couldn't. Something kept him from doing it, something kept him from dying. He wanted to know what that was.
