*Note of warning: Been a while since I saw these two episodes so I know some of my views are a bit hazy* Sadly Luna's back story is brief at best and the whole "Nightmare Moon capture and banishment" has far to many plot voids, will ignore that and deal with what we know. I personally like to find middle ground in the storyline that both sisters were in the wrong (Luna being left alone while Celestia ruled over day, While Luna throwing a tantrum over no one paying attention to her) however I feel something more was going on that caused the huge change. I feel that such anger and jealousy had to come from something more then the facts in the story (i.e first two episodes). With season 2 character Discord I am leaning towards possibly Discord somehow affecting Luna in some way. While I'm aware that both Luna and Celestia locked him away, I do wonder if Discord could affect or even infect Ponies without them knowing even in his imprisonment. Or possibly Discord having some type of lackey or followers that cause such feeling or disharmony to be amplified thus causing such a reaction from Luna with out her realizing it to be an outside force and not her own feelings?
I've been toying around with theories like Discord throwing off a piece of himself at Luna just before he was Stoned. It seems likely, especially since he took the time out of his day to POSE for them while he was being imprisoned the first time. Maybe a seed of Discord basically WAS Nightmare Moon, just a voice in Luna's head until it could work enough of its evil magic to completely twist and break her. But yeah, while I don't necessarily believe that Celestia is perfectly pristine and innocent in the rise of Nightmare Moon, it peeves me, for some reason, when people go the full-on Tyrantlestia route and just make her out to be a heartless [REDACTED]. It's disappointing, really, especially since you can make Celestia a well-rounded and compelling villain without stepping so far out of her characterization in the show. Making her such a one-dimensional character just for the sake of a Light Is Not Good villain plot is weak.
