Right; the question we've been asked is, "Is it wrong to eat meat?", to which we may respond in any number of ways. However, if our ethics are dependent on our natural capacity, then murder is not wrong because it is something we can do as a part of our natural existence. Rape is not wrong by that argument either, nor is racism or sexism, or any other number of things that most people would agree are unethical. Saying that just because we could do it means we should is a very specific ethical statement that directly implies those things. There are, as you say, far too many unethical implications that follow from using solely a state of nature argument to back the eating of meat.
I would say on this topic it isn't right nor wrong to eat the meats of animals, it's completely natural. Humans are as hunters and we eat meat and grain and oils to survive, like killing ox to get its fur to survive the cold harsh winter. We aren't gonna sleep near a volcano for warmth, aren't we? And eating meat has protein and natural things our bodies need.
See some of the posts before you. Your side of the argument is legitimate but one of the justifications you used is not. natural =/= ethical
Eating crops instead of eating animals that eat crops Isn't logically sound because a. We already have a surplus of crops and would just be wasting food if we hoarded it and b. Meat is not the same as crops, this is like saying we shouldn't wear clothes because we can just grab cotton plants and wrap them around our nads, that's not the same. Artificially conceived meat Carries all the same controversy / problems as GM crops and stem cell research - it'll face heavy resistance from religious groups and anyone who isn't convinced it's safe, which translates to lawmakers lobbying against it to curry favor / accept bribes and problems finding funding from big companies for the same reason. Can you imagine the energy bill? It'll cost more to produce the meat than you can possibly get from selling it what with all the farms providing perfectly-adequate natural meat for 1/10 the price of your terrifying conjured meat from hell. I highly doubt that magical science meat will come anywhere close to matching meat output from natural animals at any point in our lifetimes. The fact is that humans do not regard animals' welfare as important compared to their own, have been conditioned to label things as "natural" and presume they are better and healthier, and see no reason to switch from a reliable, cheap source of food to protect rights that don't exist. Who can honestly say they're surprised?
