Unfortunately, there were no trees sturdy enough to support a pony anywhere near the Asylum, but there did not seem to be that many guards. Probably because there was only one door on this side of the building, and no windows. Dark couldn't see anything that could get them in besides the door that the guard was by, but then, he hadn't seen the whole building.
"So, we've got a few options", Haze said. "We can attract his attention to another area and sneak past, use a disguise, or fly up to the top. Problems- Attracting their attention might alert them of our presence, we don't have a disguise, and we might be more visable if we go to the roof..."
Dark Shine sighed. "I have an idea which should work. There is only one guard right? I can distract him and while I do, you guys sneak past." He looked to the place where the guard was. "Its risky though."
"I had that idea!!" Haze Snapped. "And we don't want to alert the of our presence- I say we go the simple "stealth" route- I wonder whether security'd be less strict around the back... If so, we might be able to get on the roof from there."
Dark Shine nodded. "Then there is also the chance we would waste our energy for no entrance up there. There has to be something... Someway..."
At this point, Haze heard talking from the direction of the guard. However, it was muffled, as he seemed to be half inside the building with his rump on the outside of the door.
"But we don't know 'til we look around the ba-" Haze's ears perked as she heard voices from behind the tree... She peered around the tree and looked towards the door, to see the guard was now speaking to someone inside... She whispered to the others "Shh- Guys, I think something's happening..."
When Haze listened closely, she caught pieces of what was being said. "Just because (...) shinier (...) than me! (......) now you're (...)? Well! Isn't that (...)!" The guard huffed and his hind legs stomped a little in irritation.
"I can't make out all that he's saying... Maybe we should get closer?" She looked around for a better place to hide which would be closer, so they could get a better idea of what was being said, and perhaps who was being talked to... "It'd be a bit risky, though."
Unfortunately for Haze and Dark Shine, the perimiter of the Asylum was clear of anything to hide behind whatsoever. (Will Haze dare to sneak forward to catch more of the Guard's mysterious conversation?! Tune in next time when Dave says: "I like de muffins. Dey are very goot, da?")
There was... Nothing? Haze didn't want to take the risk of getting within sight of the guard. She looked around, to see what was around thatshe might be able to use. Finding a bush, she jumped in, signalled for the others to find a bush to, and moved towards the guard. Still in tjhe bush. Kinda like in cartoons, y'know?
Haze was able to get closer to the guard using this rather amusing technique of stealth; close enough to overhear the last part of the conversation. "...are you making fun of me? What did I ever do to you?" Pause. "...Okay, besides that." Pause. Here the guard lowered his head, his ears pressing against his head. "Oh, yeah...I guess that would hurt..." The guard reached forward and scooped up his helmet, which Haze just noticed that he had not been wearing and had been sitting in front if him instead, and plopped it on his head. It seemed to fit very loosely. "Okay," he said, "Let's just call it even. Now let's pay attention! We've got to be guards, remember?" He giggled in a very un-guard-ly and, to Haze at least, unnerving fashion. At this point, Haze gave up trying to see who he was talking to as she realized that there was nopony else here, at least nopony that she could see.
Haze got to about 7 meters from the building. This stallion seemed rather unprofessional about his job. He seemed a little too laid-back, taking time off his duties for a conversation, taking part of his armour off, and from the look of his helmets bad fitting, he was rather badly equipped. It seemed he'd be pretty easy to distract too... Confrontation would most likely be a bad idea, as he may alert others, but he seemed dopey enough to distract. Haze decided to sit a while longer. She watched, hoping for some clues to help build a plan, and to find the right moment. ...
The guard, rather than do what guards normally do and, you know, guard, he started feeling the crest of his helmet and giggling. He did not seem to be paying any attention whatsoever to his surroundings.
Haze watched the Guard for a few seconds. It was kinda amusing to see. When Haze felt she'd seen enough Crest-Caressing, she looked at the floor below her hooves. She was looking for something to distract the pony with, so -they- could sneak past. Just a stone would do... Luckily, she found a 5-bit coin, and she picked it up. She prepared to throw it, but before she did, she thought to herself What if it doesn't work? What if it just attracts his attention toward herself? After watchig him exploring his helmet with his hoofs a lil' more, in such awe of it, she decided there was no chance of that. She flung the coin, and it flew past the guard and hit the ground a few metres away from him with a soft 'Ping'
The guard's ears stood straight up and his whole body swivelled toward the noise. Haze heard him say, "...What do you think that was?" He stayed still a few more seconds, still facing the coin, until he noticed it on the ground. "Oooh, a coin! I call dibs!" He scampered over to the coin to pick it up without a second thought as to where it had come from.
Haze waited to check how whether the coin would keep his attention for long enough, before flying to the door. She quietly peeped through the keyhole, to see if anyone was stood there, on the other side...
...where she saw absolutely nothing but an empty room with another door on the opposite wall. The guard was currently wrestling nopony for possession of the coin, and had not noticed Haze one little bit.
