*Snort* *Snicker* AHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA!

You're right. Let's be realistic while we discuss the lives of fictional talking ponies who get their identities from magical *squee!*ty lower back tattoos that 9 times out of 10 match the names their parents gave them. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

Okay so you're saying the only reason they wouldn't do that is because it's a kid's show. And I agree. I'm just thinking that this is wrong. I mean if Spike and Rarity can kiss, why would it be wrong for kids to see just because it's two girls/fillies/mares?

Besides, think of what it would be like if they did it. The sheer responce, both good and bad, to something like that happening in a daytime cartoon...

I'm not saying get all pervy and sexual about it. But just like when Rarity kisses Spike on the bridge, what about say Fluttershy and Twilight saying they like eahc other and kissing quickly? Why don't they allow something like that?

Do you have a sister? Because mine and I made a promise. Whoever dies first the other will go to their grave and dance on it in golf cleats.

And let's not even get started on the very first thing people think of when you mention "twins".

Have you seen the siblings in this show? They annoy one another and in one case imprison one another on the moon for a thousand years as punishment for something that takes a few hours to fix.

Why would you compare furry to yuri in the first place? Those are two very different concepts that don't have anything to do with each other. One being just one fandom and the other being used in a variety of all sorts of different fandoms.

    this makes no since :S

I'm not going to lie, I chuckled at this, but what I meant by "realistic" is the technical aspect of the show. You know, the team involved in actually making the show that we watch. I don't mean the discussion about things that occur in the show itself. Believe me, I love to overanalyze things too. ;)

I agree with you 100% on this one. It isn't right, and it's not fair. I'm honestly surprised I didn't hear any controversy about how Spike is a baby dragon and Rarity's an adult— the age difference. There would be nothing wrong with two girls kissing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of ignorant and close-minded bigots out there in this world. In the end, it's about the capital and ratings, and I'm sure that there would be plenty of angry parents if they saw two mares or two stallions kiss. That'd be some serious unnecessary drama. Case in point, the Derpy drama; people overreacting over something trivial and not meant to be offensive.

As interesting as that would be, I wouldn't want to see the show cancelled because of it. :/

Oh yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I know you don't mean anything perverse or sexual here. To be honest, what you just described I think would be extraordinarily adorable, but as I said, I'm sure many parents would be rather displeased with it. In their mind, once you leave the realm of heterosexuality, it's suddenly wrong, perverse or inappropriate, even if it's just a kiss. As a bisexual male, I find that offensive.

No worries, Clayton. I agree with you on this, and even though there may be things we disagree on, it's okay. I'm rather enjoying this conversation actually. ^^

I love these kidns of talks too. I'm a non-Christian living in Utah. You'd be amazed the conversations I've had with missionaries about their blaspheming heathen ways.

Okay look, I've hung out on a few of these sites. And the whole "Are these fictional characters in a gay relationship" thing is hardly new.

Starting out for me it was Mihoshi and Kiyone from Tenchi Muyo. Then it was Kim Possible and Shego. (you really need to look up my fan fictions)

I would LOVE to see the show cancelled because of that. Or at least have it put in the last episode. It's still better than shows like Reaper and Brimstone and God the Devil and Bob, or Joan of Arcadia being cancelled by religious nuts who think god and the devil shouldn't have their own shows.

Hell the sheer outrage might mean that the show gets brought back like Futurama (perhapse on a new network) or even better people might try to just let the show go and never bring it up again... like how in Kim Possible there's an entire episode where Kim ditches Ron to date Shego and even moves her into her room. The ratings would be phenominal! Especially if they play it off like it's no big deal.

The baby dragon thing by the way, is debatable since apparently it's based on hording, not age. In some myths Asian dragons hatch full grown. And Spike has demonstrated the hormones of an adult since he met Rarity.

    note: it's spelled S-E-N-S-E

Now as for the furry aspect, the fact that they talk, wear clothes, eat eggs/milk, raise chickens etc. does indicate a certain amount of humanising of them.

It's not camparing them, I'm just adding it to the conversation to save space on the forum. That's why it's multiple choice.

Besides, you'd be amazed how peopel treat the furry question similar to the yuri one. I know anime fans for example who will argue that catgirls don't qualify as furries let alone the talking pony girls we're looking at... how messed up is that?

Clayton, although you express many valid points, and I respect your POV on this, I believe you're over analyzing this. That being said, just so I can clarify things (not trying to shove my religion down your throats here), I am a Christian, and those "missionaries" who say gay is wrong makes me sick. After seeing this argument, I can see why Derpy chose to leave Everypony.

Location? Buddy, I'm a voice in your head.
    Heads up. I'm a Mormon.

Since i have some time to kill, let's respond some:

1)Yeah, and two brothers. And we do much the same, and more. That doesn't mean I don't have a deep affection for each of them. It's called love, but it's not a romantic love at all. It's familial. I also like to think I love my friends, but wouldn't go kissing any of them(beyond sarcastic reasons). There's all sorts of love, that was my point. Twilight and Celestia love each other, but I don't think it can be construed in the way you take it as such. It can be love without being romantic, as you seem to imply.

2)Psychic powers or "Oh diety, he didn't eat the other one!"?

No, I know what you're talking about, but in recent conversations about twins those were my first two thoughts for each one. Also my point. How you perceive something is not the same as everyone else's perception.

And I promise, I'm not just being arbitrary, ask me about my Dad's stories or Strangeness In The Proportion if you wanna know why those two thoughts pop into my head on the subject.

3)Yes, and they clearly still love each other very much-Even Celestia, who is the biggest douche I've seen in a while(Seriously, what the hell were you doing for that year?). Circumstances are thigns to factor in, but even with Celestia and Luna, you can see their affection for each other at the end of Episode 2 in Season 1.

And more to the point-Yes, Clearly Twilight deeply cares about her teacher. Do I think it's saying there's a possible lesbian relationship there?

That's more fanfic-y than reality. Their relationship and affection is more on par with parent-child than one or both having in-the-closet romantic love for the other.

I'll explain later why I seem on edge with this conversation, I gotta run right now. Know I'm not angry at anyone.

As much as we'd love to see our favorite characters enjoy a happy romance (and it would open up new story possibilities), there is simply too much hate for gays in the media right now. It's sad. Personally, I don't care about gender because I love sappy romance and happy endings.

I completely understand the idea of Twilight and Celestia's unusual relationship--specifically Twilight. Her psychotic behavior is very out of place for a kid's show, but then Pinkie Pie's preceded hers by a season.

    -----------------

Yuri is a label for pairings--being female/female. I have no idea how you can compare Furry and Yuri when they're labels/genres for two completely different things. The characters of FiM are not classified as furries, though I can understand how it's easy to do so and why people do it. The furry fandom receives a terrible amount of hatred and misconceptions.

Clayton, first of all, please relax a little and be a little bit more polite.

Now moving on from that, I'd like to address this:

According to the latest and most likely data, somewhere under 10% of the US population is homosexual. Now the show is produced in america, so this information is pretty relevant. So that means that probably something in that neighborhood of the relationships would be homosexual.
Data suggests that as of 2011, 56% of the US population thinks that Homosexual relationships are morally acceptable. (39% Find them unacceptable)
That same Data also suggests that 64% percent of the population of the US supports legalized Homosexual relationships. (Unspecified Oppose.)

    A little surprised?

Now as much as I'm sure the MLP online community has a much higher acceptance of Homosexual relationships, the online community is not the largest demographic of people who watch the show, and it most certainly isn't the demographic that watches the television ads that air during its operation. (The Money.) Or the largest portion that buys MLP merch.
There is a large portion of the target demographic who watch the show: Young girls, with parents who have opinions on this matter.

    Now lets ask ourselves:
Why would a show feature an act between two of its characters which a large portion of the viewers disagree with?

    The Answer:
    No reason, you wouldn't.

    Why:
Because, it would result in a loss of viewership for no gain, it would be controversial, it damages viewership, and the creators themselves may even have moral difficulties with it. A heterosexual relationship is universally acceptable and it is more commonplace. Not only would just -10% of the relationships in the show realistically be homosexual, but its a risk with no reward. It isn't going to happen for that one big reason.

As much as this community demographic would prefer a more open minded approach, its probably not going to happen, because the show might loose so many watchers, its forced to close up. Do you want that?

Why not leave these sorts of thing to the Fan-Content community? The show can go on, and it gives fanfic writers who are interested in that genre a chance to strut their stuff. Now don't take this the wrong way, I've got absolutely nothing against people who are gay, lesbian or bisexual, I'm just talking about how unlikely it is that we're going to get a fair distribution of this kind of thing.

    And more on topic:
These are my thoughts as well.

Exactly how I feel. It's a kids show. Hasbro isn't bringing in touchy topics such as homosexuality into MLP anytime soon.

@Clayton. I think you need to calm down a bit. I'm actually starting to wonder if this thread is one big troll, because you seem to be making stupid points. The love Twilight has for Celestia can be compared to that of a mother to a daughter. Why does Twilight act so "ecstatically"? She's a lesbian, yup... More like, her personality suits that of a socially awkward, yet capable pony. Her strengths are her knowledge and the close friends she has, but her weaknesses are social activities and events that force her to leave her comfort zone. Meaning, she tends to become over excited over simple things, or the exact opposite (Lesson Zero). Why do I make this assumption? Because it's how I am in real life.

I mean, really. It's a kids show, we won't delve into homosexuality as much as I'd love to be addressed. ESPECIALLY not with Hasbro.

*Snicker* Okay first off I am not only being calm, I'm having myself a good old time here.

Secondly... yes Hasbro would never do anything gay in their cartoons. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go watch some He-man reruns.

You have to admit, if Celestia asked Twilight to sleep with her there'd be a sonic rainboom leading from where Twilight was standing up to Celestia's bed.

And as for the idea that a kid's show can't have yuri elements... anyone watched any anime lately? Sailor Moon? Card Captors?

A: We're all overanalyzing this. Saying they're not gay is basically the same as saying they are in that area. They're cartoons. Drawings. They don't even actually move it's just an optical illusion.

B: As for the religious thing... did you have a point? Cause there's a lot more stuff religion should be down on in this show than homosexuality.

1)I think the calm down is more in line with you acting like a troll. Clearly you're having a good time of somewhat obnoxious, if I'm following the refrain of some of these people here. Or in others words, yer being an ass.

2)I really can't comment on He-Man-not because I think I you're nessecarily right in regards to their intent but because I refuse to watch the show to get ammo to argue against the point.

3)...No. No I don't have to admit that. Because it is wrong within the accepted canon of the series. Anyone with their brain out of the gutter can clearly define their relationship as parent-to-child. Just because you can't help but see a budding lesbian relationship between the two does not mean you are right, it means it's your view, and given the number of people who've argued against you, with well reasoned and thought out arguments, odds are your view are limited after spending so much time in the mental muck.

RANT: Seriously, I'm sick and tired of people trying to tell me that certain characters have those sorts of feelings for each other when it is, at best, left open to interpretation, and at worst(Like Twilight and Celestia here), intelligently and subtly defined as NOT. It happens all across the damn board and it's annoying as hell. It's one of the worst cases of people seeing what they wanna see and ta hell with others think, it's arrogant in the extreme and, again, obscenely limited.

NOTES: A)I don't have quite the same disdain for shipping fanfics, because I make a choice to view those hypothetical scenarios, the what-ifs of that subject, but it's worth noting I don't read them regardless. B)It may be tempting to accuse me of hypocrisy because I'm trying to force Clayton to see a non-romantic relationship, but there's a matter of support, clarity and honesty here. The show, properly analyzed, evidences more of the parent/child relationship than anything romantic or sexual, and this fact can be supported by the number of well reasoned arguments for the former rather than the latter. In this case, it's not me trying to say they're not like that because that's how I choose to see, it's me saying that because many elements point to that being true within canon.

    4) The Japanese have very different standards from us, and as an asides, Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura were written for young adults, not children. Be informed before you make this sort of point.

1)...Not really. Certain people have dissected it the right amount and others have only superficially studied the subject. No one's gone over nitty gritty on details, analyzing it down to the last little intonation.

2)He's agreeing with you about your attitude towards certain religious beliefs. Which, as a side note, is opening a can of worms on the subject and inviting things to get bad.

CLOSING WORDS: First off-Yes, I'll admit, I'm getting too upset over a supersillious subject. But I gotta say, this really pisses me off. I don't think it would matter if it weren't for the fact that you keep snickering and offering the weakest and unthought out chains of arguments for this, Clayton. I really do think you're doing this because you like getting a reaction out of people, and I admit, I'm openly playing your game like an idiot. That is, if it's all true-you might not be, much as I doubt it.

Second off-All that said and done, I personally don't think this conversation is going anywhere good. I'm pretty sure people will think what they will on this regardless of what's said, and keeping it open further is an invite for more aggrivation and agitation, even if no one is openly aiming for such. So I propose we all more or less drop it.

As Arcane said, it wasn't meant for kids, but that point aside, I used to watch Sailor Moon. Do you remember what they did with Malachite and Zoisite in the American English dub? They changed Zoisite into a girl so that Malachite and Zoisite were heterosexual lovers instead of homosexual ones. This is what I mean by the intolerance and the problems we'd face if Hasbro even allowed homosexuality to enter MLP:FiM, and that was a show for an audience much older than MLP.

Arcane, with all due respect, after reviewing the thread, you seem to be the only one that's gotten out of line here. However, I will agree with what you've said in regards to how Clayton is behaving.

Clayton, if you can, please stop with the "snickering" and the somewhat asinine/sarcastic replies. I have to agree that it does put off an obnoxious overtone, and I don't know if you intend to do that or not, but that doesn't really help your argument. I know you did that with me a little back there too, but I handled it much differently and we had, what I would consider, a fairly civilized conversation about this. I think others can do that too.

    Guys, stop throwing out the word "troll," trying to derail this thread, and posting responses that add little to no substance. Ris_Grestar summed up how I feel quite well;

    ^ Exactly!

Clayton should have the right to express his perspective just like anyone else here does. I'm not going to deny him this right nor censor him by locking this topic. I can't stop other mods/admins from doing so, but I hope they too follow my view on this one. If you don't feel you can post your disagreement in a fashion without getting overemotional about it— throwing insults back, for example, then don't bother replying at all. It's okay to disagree and discuss those disagreements. Clayton and I did that earlier in this thread with very little problems. In fact, I rather enjoyed myself.

It's when you start calling someone a "troll" or an "ass" is when it gets out of line. Even if someone shows disrespect to you, being openly disrespectful back doesn't make you right either. So, please, if anyone is going to contribute to this thread in the future, please post something that's not only on-topic, but also something that's not intended to insult whoever you are replying to. This goes for both sides.

I will keep a closer eye on this topic to make sure things remain civilized.

I have no idea how dominatrixshy became a thing.

I'd say she's more submissive than Twi, at the very least.
