Since this is apparently where everyone is posting their thoughts on the episode, it's where I'll post mine as well. Anyway... I really liked this episode. I really did. Then again I like mystery stuff so that may be part of why. However, parts of it legitimately made me laugh. And there were surprising cute moments from Rainbow Dash. No Ace Attorney/Spiral moment. That would have made the episode better for me. But I enjoyed it all the same. Another GREAT episode.
Dulset indeed it was a great story to finally see Rarity be the detective in this episode and RD the culprit
I honestly did not like this episode, sorry to be the negative nelly I will explain later when I am not on my phone, lol. Also, thread moved to the right area :3
I was confused when I saw this episode. Many characters seemed to be acting...off, not how they really should have. For example, the Wonderbolts accuse Rainbow Dash with little to no evidence besides "You might have done this! Suspicion!" Then they threaten to kick her off the team, before anybody has done any investigating. Like, really? That whole scene just seemed super unreasonable and forced, for drama's sake. Also, Rainbow Dash didn't seem to have any faith in Rarity, nor did she seem very thankful to Rarity for helping her. This I can kind of understand; she was probably stressed, upset, etc. Also, Rarity is not best known for her detective skills. But still, seemed a little odd to me, again, forced for the sake of the moral of the story. They've been friends for how long now? The 'mystery' bit was too easy to figure out, at least for me. Classic Chekhov's Gunman trope, it happens in every generic mystery story. At least the Mystery Express episode had the decency to avoid the most obvious, overused mystery trope. Finally, the whole cake scene made no sense. How did Wind Rider manage to pass for Rainbow Dash? Their voices sound the same??? No they don't, they don't even sound close. In conclusion, I feel that the episode suffered from very mediocre plot structure and writing, and lack of innovation and originality. That tends to be what I judge episodes on, so if you judge them differently, you are welcome to your opinion. But the whole detective thing has been done before, with the Mystery Express episode. And Rainbow's dreams getting shattered has been a consequence for failure in too many episodes to count. The episode wasn't even that funny, which might have redeemed it a little for me. I rate the episode 4/10, because despite all that I feel there was wrong with it, it wasn't bad really, either, just...generic, bland, and lazy. They have made far better episodes, so I expect better from them than this cookie-cutter story that could have been taken directly from the original Scooby Doo episodes.
Nah Scooby is cool, just most of the original episodes suffered from being very predictable mysteries is all.
