I've never really used 4chan myself, but I learned alot about it from troll sites like ED and the likes. Its basicly what you said. But it also has its own two, 'internet rules'(Rules 1 and 2). I'll spare you the details on the other two everyone pretty much agrees on(as I'm sure we all know about it already), but 1 and 2 are just: "You will not talk about /b/" "You WILL NOT talk about /b/" But I guess it applies to the whole of 4chan, I left the second I saw the ads. No thanks.
I concur, it's because of the memes and controversy of 4chan that got the show to spread like wildfire through the internet.
