"I think having you will be helpful. Do you think you could take the gun when I'm done and get away while I distract them?"
She waved him off matter-of-factly. “No, but I got caught up in it anyway. And you are more important to the mission than I am.”
She laughed out loud, raising an eyebrow. “Do I look like the kind of person who would sacrifice myself for anything?”
“Abel, you literally just met me,” she replied flatly. “You don’t know me well enough to be this attached.”
“I’m not going to die,” she said, raising one eyebrow. “But I probably have a better chance of leading people away than you do, if what you say is true.”
She gave him a weird look before heading to the town square. "It's just the supermarket. Have you been in town long?"
"I've been in town long," he said with a frown. "I don't go out for recreational reasons much. And I usually go to the farther store."
"I see," she replied, looking over at him. "One of these days, I'm going to get you to tell me your past. Figure you out a little."
