He sighed, shaking his head slightly. "I'm not sure yet. I want I want to keep people there safe. The enemies might join in."
She rested her hands flat against the table, squinting down at the map. "Abel, do you know about positive feedback systems?"
She pursed her lips. "My mother used to talk about them when we... when we used to talk about things. Apparently, there's two types of feedback system in the human body: negative feedback, and positive feedback." She paused before shrugging and leaning against the table. She made a wave movement with her hand as if following the flow of the wind. "Our bodies are built to maintain, right? To find a state of balance. When things go sour, our bodies need to respond. So, for example, when we get hot, we sweat. That's an example of a negative feedback system; something is out of whack, and we respond with an action that serves to counteract the whackness."
"Yes," she said, with a small shrug. "Because there are also situations where the human body needs to continue being out of whack. Like... when a person is having a baby, they need to continue to be in labor, even though they're in pain and losing blood. The body needs to have something that tells it to keep going. That's a positive feedback look. It tells your body to keep pushing and pushing until there's a release." She looked up at him, tilting her head. "This is all a long thing to say that I think we should be looking for ways to promote chaos, even though it might yield a response. You know? Go big. Go crazy. Light the fuse."
"I get it," he said, nodding in understanding, "and I agree, but I'm afraid the authorities will put out that fuse and silence them."
"What if it's big enough?" she countered. "A full out rebellion? At least then all the attacks would be explicit, you know? Clear cut."
"Maybe," he said, "but it seems like they're starting their own.. What if we can't reinforce them enough in time?"
"I'm not planning on rioting with everyone else," he said easily. "Don't worry. I might need your help, though."
"What I'm thinking is I'll be helping the people on the street in case anything happens," he said, making vague gestures with his hands, "and you can be on the buildings directing me where to go if you see anything."
