Notice how I said 'General Chat THREAD' not an IRC.

It will have more mod prescence (At least that's the vibe I get from it.) and post counts won't count. I'm all for that idea.

Just not so much for having a topic that should have been dead hours ago.

Or the mods could just step up and mod the one we already have. Still no one has answered my question.

If the post count is a number to you, why do you care what number others have?

I thought people are here to have fun and do what they want. Every few months something pops up like this and it feels like this place is becoming more of a business. Can't make sad threads, games are no longer being played and now the option of general chatting is being called spammy/useless. Sounds like a boring office job more then it seems a play for fun.

The Sad threads were for a legitimate reason, people stopped playing the Forum games after rep was removed, and the GCT is poorly maintained and needs a revamp.

It's not that I care, it's that people other than me do.

2 words, Pixel. Social Hierarchies.
They form whenever a member misconceives the fact that High Post-Count = High Credibility
It's happened. Believe me.

Then I must be the king. HAHAHAHAHAHA bow before me mortals.

LOL JK YO

Yes the sad thread was right, but it was only an example. The games stopped being played with the removal of posts adding, rep had nothing to do with it.

If others look at me and see my post count and think "wow look at that guy, he must be a god among others". Then they have to reevaluate the way they see people.

You'd be surprised at what evidence I gathered from the removal of Rep, Pixel.
On average, when rep was existent, the Forum Games section had an average of 30 viewers at a time
When rep was removed, it had up to at the very most 20 at a time.

When post counts FINALLY stopped counting there, it sealed the deal.

Honestly Pixel... The only reason I'm still here now is because of debates like these...
It makes a fun pass time. When rep was removed, I was severely happy. But not mostly because it was removed (That was only a small part.) , it was because EVERYONE had valid points as we do now.
It is all a matter of which is picked...

Wow, look at this Pixel Hope guy. He must be a God among others.

I think the main reason that other members feel post count is important is because they'll become a member/senior member. I think that titles like that should only be awarded to those who truly are great members. It should be an award given to you by the mods. Then again, that's too much effort.

This has been suggested multiple times. Unique titles would be -so- good to have... but it doesn't look like that's happening.

A nomination for titles went on earlier, but nobody even bothered to nominate anyone, so no titles were given.
I'm still awaiting my Best Pony 2011 title though...

If you go to your profile and look under the awards tab, you'll find it.

I know that. It's just the fact that I was told that I would be receiving that as a -title- in and of itself.

That's unrelated to the discussion at hand though.

Rep was different, it clearly showed person A looks better then person B. Post count is a number, I already said with the removal of the rep system, I have my know internal rep. I judge how I view others. People like mane, I might not always see eye to eye with him, but I respect his view on things.

we already had a planned give away of user titles. I thought it would and up being a popularity contest thought it seems the while thing got dropped. Wasn't foxy supposed to make the announcement 2 weeks ago.

I agree with Pixel. When rep was around, I was guilty of trying to increade mine. But I didn't stop posting in the forum games because it stopped. I play the forum games because I like games. The people who only care about their post counts aren't understanding the reason why this site is here.

I left Forum Games because I was bored of them, not because rep was removed.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I'm not seeing any glaring problems right now,
Why should something be changed?

I would like to start by reminding you that this site is a forum.
Not some safe heaven of justice and purity.
The purpose of a forum is to both entertain and communicate.
At least one may be present, both a preferable.
The intent of the forum os to gather people who follow
The fandom and allow them to enjoy themselves,
As long as their enjoyment falls into the boundaries
Of the rules that have been set out by the administration.
If their source of enjoyment stems from having a high
Post count, they're completely entitled to do so,
There being no rule to prevent such.
Given that they do not spam, posting large quantities of
Posts with generally little value is completely alright.
Making it otherwise would undermine the purpose of the forum,
Namely to entertain and communicate.
Generally, it is admirable if posts have meaning and tact,
But I do not believe there is a single user on the site
That having accumulated a sizable amount of posts
Has exclusively posted productive content.
This forum remains to be a simple medium for the
Collaboration of a sizable amount of individuals,
In the ways that they typically enjoy.
Simply because you do not share their views on what
Can and cannot be done, or what is or is not enjoyable
Is not a valid reason to deprive or hinder such.
Everyone is entitled to have fun.
Whatever that fun maybe, so long as it complies
With the set out rules, is defined as being perfectly legit.

If such rules are not to your liking,
You can take that up with the administration,
But that addresses a separate issue.

I'll likely follow through with this on one level or another, I can't see myself disabling post count within it though, because quite frankly we get just as many useless posts in serious threads as we do in general/off-topic threads. Post count is just a number, if it bothers people perhaps the implemention of an option for individual users to turn off its display?

Hey, that's what I said. It worked with rep it should work with post count for individuals that wish to hide it, right?

I was, (still am in a way), with a vBulletin forum since '02. (Lotsa stories there). They were having trouble with users making one/two word posts, posting a single smilie, etc. because they had withheld a custom user title till 4000 posts. (At one point someone with enough money had hired people to work over a network to post in her name. Got her custom user title in 4 months. I earned mine in 3+ years). With any kind of incentive there will be some abuse to get it. Removing post count in forums did limit their use. The off topic there didn't count toward post count. It still had a good amount of traffic there because it was a way to stay on site and touch base with friends, past talking about the main topics of the site. They eventually took to hiding post count; it didn't add or take anything from the site, really. (lol, then the 'date joined' number was the badge of honor). In my experiences with forum games sections, they eventually die because of repetition. People get tired of working the same game after a while. The only incentive to post there long term would be post count. With the phone and desktop user set-up today, I agree we need to accommodate both. But I suggest we find a way so as to not take from one so as to give to the other. Just saying, just my opinion..
