They may grow/age at the same rate as other ponies, but perhaps their aging stops at a certain point in their lives.
What sort of character discussion is it where you just go "don't pick it apart"- by discussing it, that is inevitable, and it is also needed for people who want to talk headcanons. I think we all know there are no answers, but why stop asking questions, and why stop making theories, just because it has a different age demographic? No, just calling it a "show for little kids, you don't need logic" is entirely a handwave, and I will tolerate no such waving of hands in my facility! This is science! Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. They say great science is built on the shoulders of giants - not here. At Aperture we do all our science from scratch; no hand holding.
Throwing my thoughts into this discussion. I always thought that Alicorns were just a combination of Pegasi and unicorns. Now explaining how celestia and Luna became so powerful I came up with two theories. Now we all know that Celestia and Luna put Discord's rein over the ponies to an end with the elements of harmony. Now what if them using the elements gave them a huge magical boost and by a random happening gave them a huge increase on their life. Or maybe taking down a god like Discord granted them a magical boost and a huge increase in life. Again just my thoughts.
Cadance & BlueBlood are most likely the children of distant relatives. either that or Celestia & Luna have more sisters we have yet to meet, lol.
Well Ponies have their own societies & Holidays, not to far fetched that they could a slightly different system when it comes to family. But yeah it is one of those "wait wut" things, but since Luna was in the moon for 1000 years she couldn't have had the kids, so again either theres a third sister we have yet to meet ,or they are the children of one of Celestia's & Luna's cousin's which would make them a Niece & Nephew of a sorts, I think.
I'm a fan of larry niven, a pretty good science fiction author. In one of his books, he put forth a theory/storyline that the human race was originally a 3 phase organism; child, breeder,'protector'. Protector was to come about during a breeders middle age. Suddenly, one of the plants that up till then had been repulsive became irresistible. The plant induced the breeder to physically/mentally transform into an armor-plated genius that protected and guided the children and breeders of it's own bloodline. http://larryniven.wikia.com/wiki/Pak I see something simliar in ponies. Filly, pony/pony-breeders, alicorns. Maybe alicorn is a transition brought on by a unique event. They are literally revered as at least demi-god status. You wouldn't think if there was a potential to generally breed one in the general population that they would be held with as high an esteem as they are.
I'm sure this has been said but to quote the wiki: "Lauren Faust stated that Celestia's nephew had no name in the show (before The Best Night Ever aired), and that he's the "great great great great great great great great great great great (and probably even more greats) nephew on Celestia's and Luna's mother's side, about 52 times removed, roughly speaking." He was originally a Duke but was changed to a Prince per Hasbro's request.[1] " I'm sure it's something similar with Cadence
