He looked down at her, brushing her hair back. “I always am. Don’t worry.” Alyssa began to leave, expecting her to follow.
Ferris turned and left them behind. Alyssa was hurrying, her brows furrowed. “He’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
She led them away and the school behind them burned. She sighed, shaking her head. “I did like it here...”
There was no sign of Ferris. “He’ll meet us at the spot, Fleur,” she told her. “My brother is smart.”
The safe place was under a bridge about a mile away from the school. Alyssa had led her into the woods around the campus, darting through the clustered roots and tree branches like she had been doing it her whole life. The bridge was over a small valley where a river may have flown once, although the bed was currently dry. Alyssa scuttled down to under the bridge, one brow arched critically. "Okay. We left the school about 20 minutes ago," she said lowly, looking up at the sky. "Ferris said he would be here and to leave if an hour passed."
She frowned. "He stole my necklace so I cast a spell that would force him to stay in my proximity until he returned it."
