Her frown deepened and she got into the car with a small sigh, shutting the door before it drove off.
There was a silence before he opened the door. He looked bad. His hair was ruffled and he had dark circles around his eyes. His shirt was halfway unbuttoned and he smelt of liquor, his eyes unfocused as he squinted at her. From the gusts of cold air, the room must have been freezing.
He immediately looked off his game, his face faltering as he saw her. He turned away, leaving the door open as he retreated back into the room. "Why're you here, Fleur...?"
She followed him, closing the door behind her. "I had to see you," she said. "To fix things.. sort it out. I don't want to be away from you."
His apartment was a mess, with papers and binders and files all over the table, empty bottles on the floor, and all the windows wide open, the cool November air breezing in. His shoulders were hunched as he sat back down at the table, grabbing some forms, his face harsh. "Right. Well, here we are."
"I want them open," he replied sharply, his voice rising a little. As she walked over, she would see his phone with a sticky note on her that read "Don't call her, stupid."
She let the windows alone, going over to the sticky note and pulling it off with a frown before sitting down next to him. "Are you mad at me?"
"I'm mad that it ended like this," he said quietly. "I'm mad that things can't be different. I'm mad that I can't be different. I'm mad that Santiago couldn't get the information I needed before the deadline. I'm mad that one of our warehouses burned down. I'm mad that Romero and I seem to be going down the exact same path. I'm mad that I'm almost out of whiskey."
"It hasn't ended," she said, shifting closer to him hesitantly. "I just wanted some space to myself to think. I love you, Fer, I wouldn't end this relationship so easily."
He looked over at her, tucking her brown hair behind her ear, his eyes soft despite the clouds that seemed to be obscuring his vision. "No. I know you wouldn't," he said quietly. "That's why I'm ending it instead."
