He looked over at her. “Okay. Question time. If you could say that there was one most formidable moment in your life where your entire trajectory changed, what would it be?”
She tilted her head. "That's a big question," she said. "Uh.. Probably my first important ballet recital.. It kinda started everything."
She looked thoughtful. "I was 13 and it going to give me the opportunity to be scouted for some of the best places to learn as I got older." She laughed slightly. "I did a piece from a ballet called Giselle. Honestly, it's still one of my favorites."
"Hm," she murmured, tapping her chin. "I suppose.. I just really love dancing, and everything about ballet."
He laughed a little, raising an eyebrow. “I’m not necessarily talking about work, darling. Just... what drives you? What makes you act the way you act?”
“Like...” He considered this before taking out his wallet and pulling out a small pad of paper and a pen. “Okay. I’m going to write down some words. Every round, you’re going to scratch off two of the words that you think hold the least relevance to your life, okay?”
He slipped the sheet of paper over to her. There were 15 words on it. Justice Loyalty Family Kindness Friends Ambition Honesty Sincerity Education Financial Stability Patriotism Generosity Laughter Bravery Perseverance “Okay,” he said. “Begin crossing them off two at a time until you have three left.”
She took the pen and tapped her chin as she looked at the list, slowly crossing things off until there was three left. ̶J̶u̶s̶t̶i̶c̶e̶ ̶L̶o̶y̶a̶l̶t̶y̶ ̶F̶a̶m̶i̶l̶y̶ Kindness ̶F̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ Ambition ̶H̶o̶n̶e̶s̶t̶y̶ ̶S̶i̶n̶c̶e̶r̶i̶t̶y̶ ̶E̶d̶u̶c̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶F̶i̶n̶a̶n̶c̶i̶a̶l̶ ̶S̶t̶a̶b̶i̶l̶i̶t̶y̶ ̶P̶a̶t̶r̶i̶o̶t̶i̶s̶m̶ Generosity ̶L̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶B̶r̶a̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ ̶P̶e̶r̶s̶e̶v̶e̶r̶a̶n̶c̶e̶ She passed it back.
