"Alright, gotcha.", dark says to mint, scribbling some more, then says,"Quickstar", & scribbles a bit more
"U-um... Violet Love... but please call me Violet or Vio, if you want..." She said quietly, stepping forward. Her forest-green cloak hid her flank effectively, blocking where her Cutie Mark would be.
"Alright, so that's Violet, & Jackie's right there.", dark said, then conveyed to the group,"Alright I'm Dark, & here are some enchanted amulets givin to me by celestia.", Dark held out 5 blackish emerald amulets, & put a sixth one around his neck.
Lace grabbed one and slide it around her neck, "are these the changeling amulets?" She asked examining the chain.
"Yeah", dark replied to lace, then told the group,"alright, we'll be heading to the have at sunrise, & if any changelings ask, we're all in the same wing, grab your amulets, get acquainted, & rest up."
Quickstar had already had a chance to examine the amulets back at the school when he was first briefed on the mission, but this would be the first time he actually used one. His initial observations seemed to imply that a careful and precise application of magic could more precisely control the transformations they caused, but only if the spell was cast by the pony wearing it. As he accepted the amulet, he reflected on how much of a shame it was that he was the only unicorn in the group. It would have been nice to have someone to compare his own results to.
Dark gave the remaining amulets to the owners,"if ya wanna become a changeling, just think about it, it's like how changelings turn into ponies.", dark said, then demonstrated, being engulfed in green flame, then it died down, & he was a changeling
"Do we get powers like them? Or can we just transform into a changeling?" Lace turned to a changeling then back to pony.
"You have the ability to use whatever racial traits you already have, the other things are just for looks, to finish the disguise.", dark explained, as he turned back to himself
Quickstar gave Dark's new form a measured look. "Huh...I suppose that they didn't have time to perfect them before giving them to us. No offense, but that appearance isn't exactly...inconspicuous."
"They did the best the could, besides, the creature has celestia's help.", dark glared his eyes turning blackish
"I know, I know, I'm just saying trying to blend in might not be the best approach for some of us." Quickstar carefully triggered his amulet, manipulating the flows of magic within it with a feather-light touch of energy as he molded the transformation to more accurately match a standard drone, albeit with green eyes instead of blue. *Those appearances may earn them some odd looks, but based on the more plausible theories, they should still pass. After all, they aren't the ones tasked with learning more about the structure and organization of changeling life in large colonies, so blending in won't be as necessary for them.*
Vio put her amulet on, took a deep breath, and changed. Brilliant purple fires shot up around her, causing the others to take several steps back. When the fires died down... Violet was still there, almost unchanged. All that changed was her eyes, gaining slits, and her cloak fell off, revealing two magnificent wings. She had already had them though, and the amulet just amplified it. There wasn't a single hole anywhere on her legs or in her hair. He face stayed exactly as it had been, though her fur darkened slightly, though almost unnoticeably. Her small fangs grew by a quarter of an inch, and sharpened. She looked almost like a small Hive-Queen. *Uh-oh... this is bad...* Vio thought as she drew in looks of suspicion and glares of mistrust.
Quickstar's gaze was certainly attracted, but it wasn't a look of suspicion or mistrust. In fact, despite the fact that he knew (or at least suspected) what it meant, he saw an opportunity. "My, that particular form is quite interesting!" he remarked, feigning only casual interest. "Quite convincing, I must say. Perhaps it would be best if we remained together. After all, we are the two least conspicuous of the group, so staying with the others would only cast further suspicion on us." He chuckled. "Don't worry, I won't bite," he joked, giving another comforting smile...well, as comforting a smile as a changeling drone could give.
