Well, due to mostly mehish games with only a few excellent titles here and there, it's not really surprising. And the release of Mario 3D World probably isn't enough to keep sales afloat.

Plus, wasn't the WiiU released like a year ago? I think it had it's "boom" last holiday season.

Where does Nintendo go from here? They failed when they made hardware on par with the competition, and the Wii was a fluke.

They'll just get up, and try again.

Remember, the Virtual Boy and the N64DD were things. They also have the 3DS to rely on.

Nintendo has all but milked each and every of it's game series. Pokémon is on it's last legs. Mario has been repeated far too many times. Super Smash Bros U/3DS will, aside from a few details maybe, remain mostly the same as it's predecessors no matter how many they'll still make after this.

The only games Nintendo could still do something with:

    - Legend of Zelda
    - Fire Emblem
    - Metroid Prime (maybe)

Even then, it won't be much. They should stick to handhelds. That's where they exceed well beyond anything Sony ever pulled off regardless of their superior graphics.

But will the Wii U be their last console?

More than likely, yes. If they don't get their heads out of the clouds and in the game.

    What about Starfox?

I think that Nintendo needs to start working on a new series, with completely new characters. This way, they can actually try something new instead of exhausting old characters.
I mean, has anybody even heard of any new series that Nintendo is working on? They're just going to run out of steam sometime.

    It won't be.

    Why would it be?

Nintendo has been far too reliant on its Mario and Zelda franchises lately. I really want to see them make a new Metroid game (how long ago was Other M?) and at least acknowledge that F-Zero exists.

It would help to develop a few new ips and push the other franchises that haven't been at the forefront. Kid Icarus was a good step as was Pikmin 3.

    I wouldn't mind seeing a new Side-scrolling platformer metroid.

OT- I very much so doubt this'll be their last console. They'll probably just get back to the drawing board, and make a new console which can compete.
If it doesn't work out, they've still got portable consoles going for 'em.

I kinda of disagree, the early generation PSPs were quite nice, especially now that so many software modifications exist. Of course, most of the titles that were made explicitly for the PSP were somewhat disappointing, but the hardware in it was a good pick in my opinion. In any case, it can emulate many early Nintendo consoles at this point, and while that was definitely not Sony's intention, it's something that should be considered in the grand scale of things. For the most part though, I'd have to agree with the statement that they should stick to handhelds; Nintendo has a long history of excellent handhelds and good games paired with them. Honestly, the market has changed quite a bit and I don't think Nintendo has really jumped on the bandwagon of change. People who buy handhelds are usually the people willing to sacrifice aspects such as graphics and new technologies for the sake of playing anywhere, but that isn't a compromise that stationary console gamers are willing to make anymore, judging by the innards of new generation consoles like the Xbox One or PS4, and even more so if you also consider the PC. I understand Nintendo is trying to be the affordable not-a-powerhouse choice on the market, but honestly, while the price difference between the Wii U and Xbox One is notable, that's really not the case when compared to the PS4, and the resistive touch screen on the controller still strikes me as a quirk more than anything else.

No, I foresee a Wii 3DU sometime in the future. You heard it here first.
