It isn't the being a Christian that is bad. It also doesn't have anything to do if a liberal Christian or a Conservative Christian. It is any time any religeon is used as an excuse to comment bad behavior that it is bad. It wouldn't matter if they are Christian, Muslim, or Pagan. Religous views are no excuse for abuse, terrorism, or forcing personal beliefs on others. Those parents make other Christians look bad. Unfortunatly I know way too many Christians like that and it makes me less open to talk to the good ones. It is unfortunate but I usually feel that anyone that is a Christian is going to be close minded, ignorant, and unwilling to see any view but their own. I know this isn't always true but it is still something that I expect. The thing is I used to be the same way and I see too much of my old behavior in these people. Anyway, I didn't mean to make this into a Christian bashing thing, the point was to just to mention how people like this turn people like me against Christians in general yet it is the behavior that needs to be condemned, not the religion. Those of you that are Christians, when you see other Christians behaving in a similar way, you may want to point this out to them about how badly it makes Christians look.

This wasn't aimed at me in particular, and my comment wasn't aiemd at anyone in particular, but let me just say I wasn't offended by anyone(If I had, we'd have a rant of considerable size up for y'all), and was just giving a friendly reminder to keep those brush sizes narrower. This is heavily lined with religious debate. I feel that the beliefs are irrelevant to the situation in a practical manner, but if she's applying them, it isn't fair. Shouldn't she be accepting and supportive? Her behavior is irrational, and I'm sorry for that. I really hope she snaps out of such animosity. My advice: Avoid bringing up the subject and hope it dies down. You don't have to be open to your family about it. I inform my friends, but I don't bring it up around them unless they're into the fandom like I am.
OP, you are awsome for being so level headed in that situation. I personally would have raged and used the "Im a Communist" card etc, etc. As for the while religion thing. lets all agree it has positives and negatives. id love to get into this, but i dont think this is the right forum for this
is it even legal for your parents to treat you like that? seriously, if they treat you like that, I suggest you contact some children rights organization. I suppose you have those where you live.
Parents, I am severely disappoint. That is no way to treat a child, no excuse for what they did. The twisted your words and it seems that they used the most stupid of reasons to shout at you just as an excuse to make them feel that they weren't in the wrong. Bad parenting is an understatement.
Okay, if your mom is hitting you, and your dad is threatening to beat you, that's bad. Really bad. If it continues, or gets worse, it may be physical child abuse. If my parents did that, I'd call the police. I'm not kidding. Thankfully, I was raised by relatively kind and non-violent people. If your parents are hurting you, report it to the authorities. Beyond that, they sound controlling and all-around mean. There's also something called mental abuse, and if your parents say those things frequently, you should find a way out. You may wish to consider moving out at 18, or even emancipating yourself. Now, if your parents don't say or do things like that often, it may be something you can work through. But if they do, you've got yourself a very serious problem.
You need your parent's permission to get emancipated, no way in hell that would happen by the looks of it
