“Jack is happy,” he said, kissing her cheek. “Jack doesn’t believe this life is his.”
She chuckled, her nose crinkling familiarly. "Well, Avice is glad it is."
“So is Jack,” he agreed, bouncing Sawyer on his leg.
She smiled, offering him a sandwich.
He took it, murmuring a word of thanks as Sawyer reached for Avice.
She picked him up, kissing his cheek.
He babbled brightly, his hands on her cheekbones, his clear blue eyes familiar.
She smiled, tapping his nose playfully.
He gurgled, sticking his fist in his mouth cheerfully.
She held him up, her eyes bright. "Can you say.. Da?"
He laughed brightly, tugging on her hair.
She laughed, setting him on her knee.
He gurgled, reaching for Aubrey, who was squinting at him. "Carefuw, Mama. Sawwer fall."
She held Sawyer securely. "No worries, Bre. I wouldn't let anything happen to him.
She relaxed, leaning back.
She nodded, taking a sandwich.
He leaned his head against her with a sigh, looking over at her. "What do you want to do today?"
She shrugged. "I'm not sure.. Have any ideas?"
"Not a one. We could just be lazy."
She nodded. "That's a nice idea.'
