“Well, don’t worry. They’re stern, but not unreasonably so.”
"Okay.. That's good."
“Have you met the Captain yet?”
She frowned. "I think once before."
“Black hair? Beautiful? Terrifying?”
"That sounds right.. Except she didn't seem that scary."
“No? Maybe I’m projecting, then.”
"Maybe. She seemed nice."
“Did she? That’s good.”
She looked around with a small nod. "You're nice too."
He raised an eyebrow, tilting his head. “Thank you. It’s kinda my job.”
"Ah. So then I will assume you're unkind when you're not doing your job," she teased.
“Yeah,” he agreed warmly, picking up an apple and beginning to peel it. “Definitely.”
"Mm. I knew it," she replied, getting to work beside him.
“So, Thicket, huh?”
A sigh escaped her. "Yeah. Thicket."
“What was that like?” he asked, slicing the apple before moving onto the next one.
"Ah.." She frowned. "Not great."
He frowned, glancing at her. “We don’t have to talk about it, if you’d like.”
"That would be preferable."
