He stepped back, grunting as a swipe caught his arm. He slashed forward fiercely.
She tried to dodge, but caught a small cut on her cheek. She grunted, stabbing at him again.
Her blade caught in his belly, and he looked down in surprise.
She glared before pulling it out, wiping the blade on her pants.
The sailor fell and Jack finished off his, glancing back at her. “You saved my life.”
She looked up at him, somewhat embarrassed. "I didn't want you to get hurt."
He gave her a slow, lopsided grin. “Thank you.”
She reached up, touching her cheek. "That was a bit frightening."
He frowned, noting the cut. “You okay?”
She waved it off. "It's nothing big. I'll live."
He studied her before smiling. “You did well.”
She grinned. "I did?"
“Mmh. Very well.”
"Oh, good. I was worried there. I was a bit nervous."
“You killed someone your first time, not the other way around. That’s pretty good.”
"Yeah. I'm glad I didn't die."
“I am also glad you didn’t die.”
"Are you? I'm glad you feel that."
“Well, if you had died, I would probably be dead too.”
"Because that guy was gonna stab you?"
