He sighed at her but his eyes were affectionate. "Come on," he said, picking up the blankets and slinging them over his shoulder. "We should go down."
As they neared the bottom, Jade and Ellia ran up, Ellia holding onto Jade's arm. "See? I told you!" "God damn it, Curnow!" Jade said with a furious glint in her eye. "You couldn't be hesitant a little while longer?"
Avice laughed, crossing her arms as she stepped on the ground. "It wouldn't have happened if he hadn't of gotten drunk," she said teasingly.
"How was I supposed to know he would get drunk?" she asked indignantly. "No one has ever seen him drink... not once!"
"But that could be years and years away," she said grouchily. "I mean, it took him this long to confess. It's going to be centuries before he proposes."
Jade sighed dramatically and Ellia gave her a cheeky grin. "Pay up, Eloquence," she teased. "Thanks, you two!"
Jack frowned at her. "Maybe you and I should make a bet on when they get together," he replied. "Payback."
"I don't know if you know this, but I'm a very good gambler," he replied, raising an eyebrow. "I would beat you."
"I would never underestimate you, my dear Avice. But I'm a very good gambler. My poker face is immovable."
