She gave him multple kisses along his cheek and jaw playfully .
He laughed, his hand cupping the back of her head.
She grinned, pausing. "You're the best."
“I’m really sleepy.”
"Sorry for waking you up. We can go back to sleep."
“It’s alright...”
She rested her head on his chest.
She would hear his heart, and he sighed slowly.
She pulled closer, closing her eyes as she listened.
"I love you, Avice."
"I love you too, Jack."
He fell silent, rubbing her back slowly.
She was quiet, her arm around him
It didn't take long for him to return to sleep.
She did the same.

Avice would feel a small hand shaking her awake.
She blinked, turning and looking with tired eyes.
Aubrey was looking at her with wide eyes. "Mama," she whispered tearfully, "I think Papa's dead."
