Warm light filtered through the windows, the rays slanting languidly over vibrant petals. Flowers were arranged delicately on stands inside the shop, ranging from exotic to simple wildflowers. Avice pursed her lips in concentration as she paired a few that looked good together, frowning as she noticed the stand wobbled. With a sigh, she put down the plants and ducked under the table, finally fixing the leg that had been giving her grief for the past week, noting that the floor needed to be sweeped.
The bell tingled softly as a young man entered the flower shop. His eyes were alert and curious, a crystal blue that would normally seem harsh and striking. However, the boyish freckles across the bridge of his nose and his curly, dark brown hair countered the image. He wore a clean white tunic and brown dress pants with boots and upon entering, he frowned. "...hello?"
Avice was surprised at the visitor. The bell always seemed to startle her. She backed up from under the table before standing up, wiping off her hands. Her white blouse was tucked into a long, navy blue skirt. Her eyes, which were reminiscent of the sky, seemed rather happy. "Hello! Can I help you?"
He brightened upon seeing her. "Hi! I, uh..." He seemed a bit lost, running a hand through his hair. "Well... this is rather silly, I suppose, but... I'm meeting my fiancee for the first time today and I thought... well. I figured it would be a nice gesture to bring flowers. Unfortunately, I'm rather clueless about this type of thing. Could you help me?"
She tilted her head curiously, her hair falling slightly. "Of course!" her voice was warm as she grabbed some paper, putting a band around her wrist as she looked around in thought, going to a group of white flowers. "Did you know flowers are supposed to have meanings?"
She turned to look at him with an interested eye, picking a few red flowers to place with the white ones. "Is it? She sounds clever."
She picked up the final few flowers. The bouquet ranging from white to pink to red. "Avice Rohesia, at your service."
She blinked, surprised by his compliment. "Thank you. Well.. A red carnation represents love, pride and admiration. White daisies for purity, Gladiolus for faithfulness and honor. Bouvardia is enthusiasm and the rest is just to make it look better."
