"Art? That explains it."
"There's a lake a ways behind the house," Avice said thoughtfully. "We could visit tomorrow."
"That sounds fun. Do you know how to swim?"
"I do. Do you?"
"Of course."
"Good, good. I'm better though, of course."
"Sure, sure."
She nodded, a small smile on her face.
"I will be pushing you into the lake, though."
"Mm. Good luck catching me."
"Who said anything about catching?"
"We'll see," she said warmly, taking a bite of the stew.
"I'll catch you off guard, if that's what you mean."
"Whatever you say," she replied, setting her spoon down.
He laughed under his breath, turning his focus to his food.
She grinned slightly, standing up and taking her plate. "Thanks, mom."
He also stood up and helped to clear the plates.
She looked up at him. "Oh, thanks."
He wiggled his eyebrows at her, tapping his forehead before pausing. "That was a weird thing to do."
She laughed brightly. "Yes, it was."
