Multiple emotions crossed his face and he turned to Natalia. "I'm going to take her back to the infirmary. I'll be back."
Natalia frowned but waved a hand idly. "Be my guest." Jack walked over to her and picked her up, his jaw tight and a scowl crossing his normally sweet face. He left the room and began to head back towards the infirmary.
She was silent for a moment. "I shouldn't have said those things to you. I know that. I don't know why I did. You don't deserve it," she said quietly, not meeting his gaze. "You have every right to be mad at me, but I want you to know that I'm still sorry."
She hesitated, her face looking panicked. "Well there's a lot of things you could be upset about right now."
"She could have killed you, Avice," he said sharply. "I've seen her do it without blinking an eye for far less."
"What would I have done?" he asked as he entered the infirmary. His voice was becoming panicked, and he looked down at her. "What would I have done if you had gotten hurt?"
She watched him intensly. "I thought you were mad at me," she said. "I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
He sighed and set her down on the bed. "I was hurt, Avice. I was really hurt. But I still love you. I... I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you."
She looked up at him, her eyes unsure. "I will," she said quietly. "When you're done talking to Natalia.. could you come back for a little bit?"
