She frowned slightly. "Its just been awhile since I've seen you smile.." She pulled away, standing up. "But that's okay. I understand."
He tried for a smile and although it seemed tired and melancholy, it still had the usual warmth. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. "It's just... hard."
He paused before kissing her lightly. "You make me happy, though," he said softly. "More than anything else."
"Okay," he replied, letting go of her. "Be safe." 'Be safe' seemed to be his new words of parting during these past three months. He always told her to be safe before she left.
He gave her a small smile, seeming a little truer this time, before turning to look back out to the ocean.
