"You're, like, my best friend," he said easily. "I don't think a relationship like that can exist if there isn't any trust."
"Because you've told me that you trust me," he corrected. "And I don't have to worry about you getting angry and never talking to me again."
"Sirens are annoying. You have to wear earplugs. But sharks, you just poke them in the eyes and they'll go away for a bit."
His breath caught, and he blinked at her for a moment. "A shark," he said eventually, his voice low. His eyes were intense, and they watched her hands carefully. "Of course."
He watched her for a moment, and his expression softened. "Thanks," he said quietly. "I appreciate that."
