Jack hummed under his breath before he heard a tap on his shoulder. “Excuse me, do you know where I could find poetry books?” Jack turned to meet a young woman’s gaze, her pretty hazel eyes widening slightly. “Oh, no,” he said with an apologetic shrug. “Sorry. I don’t work here.” She laughed lightly and shook her head. “Oh, sorry. My mistake.”
Avice still hadn't returned, but she stayed in the same area, unaware of her surroundings as she searched for books.
She smiled up at him. “Are you new in town? I haven’t seen you around.” He cleared his throat awkwardly. “Uh... Just visiting.”
She raised an eyebrow and cocked her head. “I see. Well, would you maybe want to meet up for dinner sometime while you’re in town?” Jack frowned and looked down at her. “Uh, I’m sorry, I’m very flattered..” She grinned and stepped forward. “Then don’t say no.” He shook his head, flustered. “No, I’m sorry. I have-“ “There’s a thousand reasons to say no, but it’s so easy to just say yes.”
Avice interjected, stepping in to drop her books on the floor loudly. She pursed her lips then looked up at the girl. "Sorry. Is there a problem here?"
The girl raised an eyebrow. “No problem at all,” she said, easily. “Thanks though!” Jack relaxed instantly and wrapped one arm around Avice’s waist. “Ahem. This is my partner, Avice.”
“Alright, well, nice meeting you,” the girl said, walking away awkwardly. Jack knelt down next to her to help pick her books.
