His breathing stopped suddenly as his eyes widened and he looked down at the knife buried in his stomach. His voice was small as he swayed on his feet. "...oh."
Avice shrieked, immediately coming to his side to help him. Her expression was panicked as she looked around helplessly. "Oh god.. Um.. Um. It will be okay. It's going to be fine. Let's.. Let's go outside, okay?'
Jack looked up at Charlotte before turning to Avice, his eyes wide. "Outside?" he asked, unable to process her words.
Charlotte fell, the earlier attack too much for her. Avice nodded, her face etched with concern as she supported him. "Outside. Let's go outside."
His hand was pressed awkwardly around the dagger, instinctively trying to keep pressure on the wound. He looked down at it, his breath coming in short gasps. "Oh, God. Avice. Oh, God. I'm going to die, I think. This is..." He swallowed, trying to keep himself from panicking. "This is really deep."
His words seemed to panic her, and her hands shook. "You're not going to die.. You won't. Okay? Let's.. Let's go outside and I'll get help. C'mon.."
"Okay," he muttered, taking a small step, his hand shaking. He cleared his throat, his eyes foggy. "Listen, Av," he told her in a hoarse voice. "Listen. If I do die..."
"I might," he told her sternly. "And I don't want to be doomed to haunt the world for eternity because I didn't say what I wanted to say. If I do die, you don't need to stay with the ship."
He sighed but gasped slightly as the dagger shifted in his stomach. "Ahhhhh. Avice. Please listen to me." They stepped out into the cool early morning air and he shook his head. "I may die. It's a possibility. I don't want you to feel like you have to stay on the ship because of a feeling of obligation."
She was quiet for a moment, before nodding and slipping her hand in his pocket to grab the mirror and signal the ship. "Okay."
She sighed shakily, letting go of him for a moment to signal the crew. "I'm going to be afraid if I lose you. Please don't let go too easy, okay?"
"Nah, baby," he said, giving her a cheeky smile, leaning against the wall. "I won't leave you without a fight."
